Its just the flu, bro.
Some people are still saying that the Wuhan Flu isnt just the flu. It is just the flu, bro. Normally the flu causes 10s of thousands of deaths each winter. Now some Fear-mongers are saying that historically the flu deaths have been exaggerated by the CDC, which therefore makes the 60k (exaggerated, but nonetheless) of Wuhan deaths much worse than the flu. The reality is that there has always been a seasonality to deaths with over a 100k of people in the USA dying in the winter versus the summer (about 10%-15% more deaths in the winter than the summer). A large part of that is due to the flu. The excess deaths (deaths beyond the historical average) we see over the past few weeks represent a small fraction of the 100k of excess deaths that we see in the winter. Based on excess deaths one could say that this is not worse than any flu and perhaps much less than the flu.
Although it is helpful and true to equate CV with the flu or minimize it with respect to the flu, I fear that in the future that we will have created a bad litmus test. Future lawmakers will see models for future pandemics that will say that some virus is going to be much worse than the flu so NOW we can reimpose draconian lockdowns and strip our freedoms from us. Some of these politicians may concede that maybe it was too strict with the Wuhan Flu but this time it would be really justified.
Not sure how many Flubros agree with this because this is beyond the scope of the criteria to be a Flubro or Flubra but...I dont want some far in the future virus outbreak, that might actually be worse than the flu, to ever be used to justify a lockdown of healthy free citizens. I mean even with a really bad hypothetical virus (one that, unlike CV, might actually kill little children) - the policy should never be to strip away our freedoms and force healthy people to be locked down. This notion that locking down healthy people is an acceptable public policy needs to be permanently killed.

He was pretty mouthy yesterday. As for today, maybe the guys in the white coats showed up, and there’s no internet in his rubber room.
Notify the authorities if you see something that disturbs you.
I don’t even understand this. These guidelines aren’t laws. How can governors, sheriffs, etc., pull “guidelines” out of their asses and then proceed to arrest citizens for their pretend laws?
You forgot Group #4. People who loaded up on freeze-dried food, bullets, and toilet paper and they want this thing to get worse so they can say “We told you so. You should have loaded up the safe space in the bunker.”
I posted your little essay on FB....I think it’s making people THINK...THX
Thx...think I’ll post that on my FB
Maybe he took his Pamprin today...?

What would it take for us to work out our differences?

“So, what about incurable diseases? Ebola? Zika? These are problems that for the most part we managed to contain so far, but could become a serious candidate. Can a virus wipe us out? Can we unite against it? Our track record in this domain, unfortunately, is discouraging. For example, quite recently we failed to unite against AIDS. Instead, it even gave rise to severe societal stereotypes and discriminations. Not a great candidate.”

“What about bacterial resistance? It is approaching faster than anticipated, it will affect everyone, it can take us back in time in terms of medical technology and effectiveness, and it will be a global threat. It can thus shake us to our core and credibly threaten our prosperity and survival.
WHO issued a statement in 2014 that the problem is no longer a future one. More bacteria will soon become antibiotic resistant. These are also called superbugs, microscopic super villains that can dodge all our available medicinal bullets. Until we will be able to devise remedies for them, our advanced treatment methods to treat diseases like cancer may be rendered less useful, as our immune systems weakened by these treatments will now become vulnerable to this new threat. This is a real possibility, right at our doorsteps. “

Global Citizen, are you ready?
Some other Fearper called me a “Major-League Asshole” yesterday.
I thanked him and said that sure beats being a Triple-A asshole like yourself.
We are older...and would /have willingly quarantined ourselves. ...but it angers me that healthy younger people are buying into this covid crap...and saddling their kids with humongous debt...and likely a tyrannical government.
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

All I can figure is they want us turning in our Zeon swine neighbors, to make them mad at Trump and vote for their pedophile.
This guy looks like a Muslim homo. I hope he argues with the wrong business owner

When I read, “the long red scarf around your neck hides the scarring”, I thought of a line in that goofy old song, “Loving You Has Made Me Bananas”. “Your red scarf matches your eyes...”
