Probably best to keep away from literal monsters in the water.

“...Especially during mating season.....”

You ain’t lyin’ there....they’re fricken’ vicious to start with, but during this time of year, they’re bad to the bone...no pun intended. And they’re quick. IF you get within 20’ of one, there is no way you’re gonna outrun it...no way. They can’t run far, but they super fast. I’ve seen em lay there in the sun looking like they’re dead....no movement. Have a squirrel or rabbit get within 15’-20’ of em and it’s like an explosion. Even the little ones have teeth like razors. I feel for that poor woman...terrible way to go. But on the other hand, I wouldn’t mind seeing a few DemoVirus communists dumped into the bayou....LOL

Surprised they didn’t say “Authorities are searching for a motive.”

Saw this a couple years ago in a news report after a mountain lion attacked a jogger.

Amusing Story Circa 1958.

I was just a 11 year old kid. I loved the swamp at night. My adult neighbor often took me to the swamp at night in a pirogue which is a dug out canoe. We mostly hunted frogs etc. We only used a frog gig or a 22 rifle for other game.

My adult friend shot a small alligator about 5 feet long and we put it in the canoe and continued hunting. He was only stunned. A few minutes later he came to life and was really pissed off. My friend went over one side of the pirogue and my self the other side. The little alligator wanted the same thing just to get away. It was most amusing. We had all the frogs in our tow sack and did not lose one of them.

The swamp was a paradise for a young kid with the guidance of my adult mentor.

The swamp will kill you if you do not understand it. It will provide you if you do understand it. It is a beautiful place where politics are of no importance when you are in the swamp!

I love the swamp. It will also kill you or foes if they do not understand the swamp. It is a really a beautiful place of which we are privileged to be a part of. When you go into the swamp it is not a question of if you encounter a snake are reptile that can kill you. Unless you are blind you will. Just leave them alone unless they are an immediate and clear danger. Just leave them alone.

I no longer live in South Louisiana swamp land but now central Texas on 9 acres of land. I have rattlesnakes on my land. I do not kill them with one exception. When they are in residence with my dogs in the fenced in backyard I most reluctantly must kill them. This is rare but necessary about every year or two.

Can this not be marked down as a Covid-19 death? It would be helpful to the ‘believers’ if it could.

My mother and also my grandmother (who lived with us) made it regularly.
I thought it smelled horrible so I never ate it.

It seems like it was on the menu every week, two weeks on the extreme.
Have you ever watched birds that eat the berries?
They go crazy - even fly into horses, barns, etc.

Just about had a neighbor get herself in a fix with a gator when she decided to go try to feed the gator, used as a garbage disposal by the neighborhood though always at a distance, some bones. Her mistake was instead of tossing them over the rail from a safe spot she decided to go down to the edge of the water and feed him ...one bone at a time.

If you give him the whole bucket of scraps he’ll ignore you and take his time eating each bit. But if you do as she did, and just give him one bone, he doesn’t have to pause to eat a bunch, it just goes down the hatch and he doesn’t even have to slow down. Each time he’d move closer expecting more. She was fine until she gave him the last one and was only halfway back to the deck.

He wasn’t breaking stride at all hoping for more, and though I doubt he would have grabbed her since he was by no means hungry and had never snapped at anyone, one cannot assume you know what a wild animal will do and should always plan for the worst. You cannot be sure a gator knows the difference between a plate of scraps and a ‘pile of scraps’ carrying a plate.

Anyway, she wet herself and dropped them empty plate, and the gator finally stopped to investigate the plate instead of grabbing the much larger, meatier chunk of humanity, giving her enough time to get to the deck of her house. Her flip flops sounded like a flat tire at 55 mph.
