The world must “keep a close eye on climate protection” as it faces the economic fallout of the pandemic, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Wednesday, speaking remotely for the Petersberg Climate Dialogue.
“We need a financial market that provides cheap capital for climate-friendly investments,” said Merkel, during an address for the annual event usually held in Berlin.
Merkel also called for climate action to be included as part of economic reconstruction plans following the pandemic, including investments in future-oriented technologies such as renewable energy.
In a video address following Merkel, UN Secretary-General António Guterres said the pandemic had “exposed the fragility of our societies and economies to shocks.”
The UN chief called for “brave, visionary collective leadership,” saying it was also needed to “address the looming existential threat of climate disruption. … We have a rare and short window of opportunity to rebuild our world for the better.’’
Merkel reaffirmed Germany’s support for the EU’s ambitious climate goals under the European Green Deal, which wants to see the bloc cut 55% of its 1990 emissions levels by the end of the decade. The member states have so far agreed to aim for a 40% reduction. …

My take on the irrationality and frank stupidity of these people is this:
The best thing for the environment is WEALTH CREATION.
The more wealth there is, the cleaner the environment will be. If people have enough money to buy food, clothes, and housing, they have enough money to not care if some of it is diverted to ensuring clean industry and buying more environmentally friendly energy.
When there is poverty, and you can’t get enough to eat, you will try to burn green wood, trash, or even dried animal dung, and if you have to throw a 55 gallon drum of toxic waste into a body of water used as a drinking reservoir just to buy a potato, you will do it.
It is no surprise that the biggest environmental disasters were to be found behind the Iron Curtain under Communist rule.
You deserve what you elect. Simple as that. You elect an idiot to lead your nation, expect said idiot to make idiotic decisions. AND, this broad is making those type of decisions and opening her pie hole and making idiotic statements. Germany doesn’t seem to have anyone else in that country to lead this except this nut case.

...if it weren’t for the plethora of prominent and powerful people on the Left who unashamedly, vocally, and through their actions seem far more interested in achieving those political goals through totalitarian attitudes and tactics whose usage is only made possible by the fear, vulnerability, and pliability of citizens during a pandemic.
