That is some really, really poor judgement.
He has done what many beautiful women have done....he squandered his appeal during his prime years and never found fulfillment. Now he is old, unattractive, and seemingly lonely.

He spent his life doing flings and fell for a girl who didn’t want a life with him. He was hurt badly, it doesn’t make him less of a man to exaggerate a bit so women will fill his pockets a bit.

There may be more than a bit of drama here. According to IMDB he’s had steady work in the 2000’s.
