Northam signs gun-control bills into law ("an exciting day for me")

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam has signed several new gun restrictions he championed during this year's legislative session, cementing gains by gun control advocates they hope will serve as a “blueprint” for states around the country.

The Old Dominion has been the epicenter of the nation’s gun debate after Democrats took full control of the General Assembly last year on an aggressive gun control platform. Tens of thousands of gun owners from around the country rallied against new gun restrictions at the state Capitol in January while lawmakers ultimately approved 7 out of 8 of Northam's gun-control package.

The governor announced Friday he'd signed bills that include requiring universal background checks on gun purchases, a red flag bill to allow authorities to temporarily take guns away from people deemed to be dangerous to themselves or others, and limited handgun purchases to one a month.

“This is an exciting day for me,” Northam said on a conference call with gun-control advocates.

Virginia was once a socially conservative state where lawmakers in both parties viewed gun rights as sacrosanct and the National Rifle Association held great sway.

“Virginia was once a socially conservative state where lawmakers in both parties viewed gun rights as sacrosanct and the National Rifle Association held great sway.”

Now it’s just another mid-Atlantic liberal hellhole. As much I despise the dems who took control of this state, I equally despise those who sat in their asses in the last election and didn’t bother to vote to keep these demons out of power. Only 40% bothered to vote in November.

Unfortunately, when it comes to good and evil, evil has about 25% of its workforce always pushing whereas good only has about 2% working at any time.

Most good people think being polite and doing nothing is the "NICE" thing to do when someone is kicking you in the ribs with steel toed boots. Because they don't want to "appear evil" by kicking back..

Think of it as wolves and sheep dogs, there is the wolf pack and one sheep dog to between the sheep and the pack.

Why? Because that is the way God made it. It took all of hell to kill Jesus, but it only took one man- Jesus, to defeat all of hell.

Some folks take that bible verse about " be kind and love your enemies " too far.

No lawsuits could have been filed, because they weren’t enacted legislation yet. The bills don’t strip away your rights until they become law.

The DEMOCRAT WAY is to do their dirty deeds under cover of a crisis.

That being said, Virginians can thank progressives and those conservatives who were too lazy to vote in the last elections for the evil being wrought upon their state. Hopefully 2020 will be different.

The reason that the Governor and his fellow Nazis in state government are in office is because the growth of Federal government workers who live in Northern Virginia. Those people go to vote and then return to their federal jobs where they work to put their Nazi attitudes in action at the Federal level.

“Maybe the Supreme Court will put a stop to these ego-maniacs in Richmond.”

NEVER look to the Supreme Court for any relief. They never want to hear 2A cases. Never put your hopes in the courts, they are as corrupt a the politicians. Case in point ... Roberts.

Establishment Republicans did nothing to stop the illegal alien invasion into Virginia going back to 2000, and did nothing to counter increasing vote fraud especially in the green card (non citizen) immigrants whom the democrats were registering in large numbers.

These Republican elites were captives of the open borders Chamber of Commerce donor class and actually campaigned AGAINST conservative Republicans who won primaries, like Cuccinelli and Stewart.

Now once solid red Virginia is permanently blue. The Republican elites, safe in their gated communities and big government jobs or law firms, don’t give a damn about the rest of us.

Blackface Northam and the new East California are creations of the RINOs.

You other states - learn the lessons of Virginia. You are only a few RINOs away from Becoming California.

It was NOT conservatives who did not vote.
That’s the Washington Post narrative.

It was Virginia’s establishment Republicans who backstabbed the conservatives who won the primaries as the choice of the people.

It’s amazing red Virginia lasted as long as it did with that huge sociopath magnet next to it drawing sociopaths from all over the US to settle and vote in NVA. With the growth of the fed state and its gigantic private support structure in the last 40 years or so it’s a wonder this didn’t happen long before. Folks should consider how their own state would do treading water with that ever-growing boat anchor attached to their state for decade upon decade.

The fed state should be rotated between all the states and regions so everyone gets their fair share of the misery. Let the fed and the giant fed private support structure become rootless gypsies that move every year and that vote by mail in their home state. Seems to me it would be a good trade off considering the high pay and fantastic benefits connected to the fed monster.

It was NOT conservatives who did not vote.

You'd be surprised at the number of "I'm not into politics" conservatives who pride themselves on not voting. Some of them may live on your block or attend your church.

Ask your county clerk for a copy of the voting roles. See for yourself who votes and does not vote. It's an eye opener.

....your comments are spot on.....we lived in the Old
Dominion for 43 years; still consider it my “emotional
home”.... learned to shoot in VA, bought my very first
gun at a gun show in VA, and enjoyed every minute at
my local shooting range....but these measures are crazy.
If you want to sell or give a gun to your son, say, you
now have to do a NICS background check on him...? and this
one-gun-a-month law was instituted by then-Governor Doug
Wilder and did NOTHING to reduce crime, murders, etc.
Sadly, here in Texas, the same sentiments are simmering
below the surface... once a very red state, Texas is in
danger of turning at least purple within the next decade....
MOLON LABE.....!!

I can remember when I was told that voting for McGovern would cause the war in Vietnam to be escalated. I didn’t listen; and, sure enough the war escalated.

So, where are all of you Virginia conservatives planning to move to, now that your state is full boat commie?

It was my dream and PLAN to retire to Virginia. That dream has died a gruesome and violent death now. I am now lost as to where I want to retire. Probably the deep South somewhere.

Conservatives are basically being pushed onto 2 Reservations.

You have the Northwestern Conservative Reservation of Idaho-Montana-Wyoming. Great if you love snow and harsh winters.

Then you have thte Southern Conservative Reservation of Mississippi-Alabama-South Carolinla-Tennessee. Texas may be a 1st Cousin for now.

I am thinking South Carolina right now, but not ruling out Bama or Tennessee.

I grieve for the Great Commonwealth of Virginia.

RIP

You no longer have the demographics for a conservative ressurgence in Virginia. Obama did a great job of flooding Virginia with Rat voting Federal employees and Rat voting immigrants. You are past the tipping point. Time to either move or go down with the ship.

Sucks, I know. My state of California went from heavily Republican to a Rat supermajority in 20 years thanks to a flood of New England commie libs like Nancy Pelosi.

Puke. It sucks I grieve for Virginia. I really do. It was my planned retirement state.
