re: timeframes - oh helltothe no. The only lockdown we need to be doing is our borders to tourists. And anyone from China.

If an area, say Seattle for instance, has less than 300 cases, less than 10% asymptomatic positive on testing, and most of their cases in nursing homes, then keep the nursing homes off limits until they’re clear, and quarantine the less than 10% asymptomatics. Then unlock the doors and get to it.

A lot of push for 20-30yo’ds to go to work. The same tidepodpeople who flaunted Spring Break. But the people pushing that idea haven’t quite grasped that without the 40-60+yo’ds unlocking the doors, answering the phones, marketing and doing payroll, there is no work.

I’d rather make the 20-30yo’ds stay home until they are cleared. There’s less of them and so faster to test in employment groups. Especially for someone like Apple or Google, or Raytheon or PG&E, who can inhouse test their entire workforce of thousands and utilize their inhouse Human Resources dept to accomplish the tast. Rather than wait on the state to do it on a birthdate basis or whatever slow-walk scheme they come up with.

New South Wales - Cruise Ship Ruby Princess

Detectives have raided the Ruby Princess cruise ship to seize its black box and question crew members about the docking and disembarkation of passengers in Sydney three weeks ago.
The vessel has been linked to hundreds of Covid-19 cases and more than a dozen deaths across Australia.
NSW detectives wearing personal protective equipment boarded the vessel at Port Kembla on Wednesday night to gather evidence about how hundreds of passengers aboard were allowed to leave the ship on 19 March.

AFRICA

Coronavirus in Africa: what happens next?

Just seven weeks after Africa recorded its first case of Covid-19 – an Italian national in Algeria – the virus is creeping across the continent, infecting more than 10,000 people and causing 487 deaths. Three of the region’s 54 countries – São Tome and Principe, Comoros, and Lesotho – remain apparently virus-free.
“Case numbers are increasing exponentially in the African region,” said Dr Matshidiso Moeti, the World Health Organization (WHO) regional director for Africa. “It took 16 days from the first confirmed case in the region to reach 100 cases. It took a further 10 days to reach the first thousand. Three days after this, there were 2,000 cases, and two days later we were at 3,000.”

https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2020/apr/08/coronavirus-in-africa-what-happens-next

to be noted: In spite of the reality that the African continent has the world’s highest incidence of HIV and tuberculosis (among other diseases), Tedros yesterday called a proposal of French scientists to offer experimental treatments and/or vaccines to the African nations as ‘racist’.

So when Africans start dying by the hundreds of thousands, I hope Africa remembers it was not for want of trying to help.

VIETNAM

‘In a war, we draw’: Vietnam’s artists join fight against Covid-19

“There are harsh punishments for those who stray from official messaging or break the rules, enforced through the country’s strong surveillance systems and a culture where, as Hiep’s poster suggests, people are encouraged to report wrongdoing. Officials are handing out fines to those posting fake news online or going out for non-essential reasons in the capital. Meanwhile, signs have appeared in Ho Chi Minh City warning those not using face masks – now compulsory in major cities – that if they infect another with a dangerous tropical disease, they could face up to 12 years in prison. Discrimination against foreigners in Vietnam, who are often seen as carrying the virus, is also on the rise; reports of hotel cancellations or refusal of service in shops have become commonplace.”

https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2020/apr/09/in-a-war-we-draw-vietnams-artists-join-fight-against-covid-19

It’s nice to see the Guardian putting to print what is being seen in many videos - blatant discrimination against westerners. Promoted by the state who parrot Chinese propaganda and tell their people that the only domestic cases are from returning ‘foreigners’ (actually their own citizens since that’s all they’re letting in) and so even those ex-pats that remained in the country are being barred from restaurants and grocery stores. And are subject to the same threat of caning as nationals.

ENGLAND - British Spirit - Land Girls Needed

Farmers warn UK faces shortage of fruit and veg due to coronavirus and need volunteers

The nation faces a shortage of fruit and vegetables unless 40,000 people sign up to pick crops at £15-an-hour.

So far 30,000 Brits have joined the new ‘Land Army’ to ‘pick for Britain’ and ‘feed the nation’ but there needs to be a total of 70,000 by early May.

...Following pressure from the National Farmer’s Union (NFU) the government accelerated the race to find workers by allowing farmers and food plants with staff shortages to be allowed to sign up furloughed workers.

This development means they will be able to keep earn an extra £350-a-week picking fruit and vegetables on top of 80% of their usual pay up to £2,500-a-month.

Tom Bradshaw, NFU’s vice chairman, has appealed for Brits to ‘step up and do their bit’...

Feb 25 - Mardi Gras

Mar 15 - schools close

Formal curfews went into effect starting Mar 24 some areas April 2 others, further reducing community exposure:

(for fun:)

..

NY -

NY had a double whammy. Lots of Chinese fled Wuhan and filled up NY hotels or returned to Chinatown communities.(comparable to ‘tourists’ count at Mardi Gras? ) So CCPVirus was circulating into community spread from Wuhan by late Feb.

Then you had the superspreader from Iran on Mar 1,
Cuomo telling people to get out and live their lives, Mar 2,
The lawyer in Rochelle Mar 3, the case at the Racetrack,
the European rush March 11 and Cuomo’s half-hearted ban of 500 people on Mar 12 compounding exposure risk.

March 11 - Trump European Travel Ban - rush of people back to the US, specifically, NYC

https://news.yahoo.com/coronavirus-outbreak-york-mainly-originated-040553132.html

NYers started getting out of state quietly to beat the rush by Mar 15 when schools closed...

https://news.yahoo.com/york-citys-poorer-neighborhoods-hit-150559763.html

Common factor: schools closing forced more people to stay home and take social distancing seriously. Reinforced by layoffs, stores closing, curfews.

of course, as always, just guessing

No one got COVID-19 right early on, but critics now bend over backwards to blame Trump
Democrats and liberal media equally culpable for America’s health crisis

https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2020/apr/7/no-one-got-covid-19-right-early-on-but-critics-now/

Trump’s excuse is, we didn’t get accurate or timely data from the lying conniving CCPChina. And that’s 100% true.

The media and the Dems have no such excuse. In fact, they’re bending over backwards to praise the same nation that started this pandemic in the first place: the lying conniving CCPChina.

FILE UNDER - BORDERS SAVE LIVES

In March, more than 150,000 Afghans spontaneously returned from Iran, one of the countries worst hit by the coronavirus - thousands more arrive daily.
Tens of thousands have also recently returned from Pakistan - among the worst affected countries in South Asia.
Officials are struggling to control this unprecedented movement across what have always been porous and often lawless borders.
So far, Afghanistan is not among countries severely hit by the virus, reporting 423 cases and 14 deaths, but this influx has raised fears of much higher transmission rates.
“With the numbers of likely infected people who have crossed the border, I expect the numbers of cases and deaths [in Afghanistan] to go up significantly,” says Natasha Howard, associate professor of global health and conflict at the National University of Singapore.

Brazil turns to local industry to build ventilators as China orders fall through

BRASILIA (Reuters) - Brazil’s health minister said on Wednesday that the country’s attempts to purchase thousands of ventilators from China to fight the coronavirus epidemic fell through and the government is now looking to Brazilian companies to build the devices.
“Practically all our purchases of equipment in China are not being confirmed,” Minister Luiz Henrique Mandetta said at a news conference.

INDIA

NEW DELHI — Indian authorities have identified and sealed dozens of hot spots in the Indian capital and the neighboring Uttar Pradesh state comprising residential districts to check the rising trajectory of new coronavirus infections.
Government statements late Wednesday said people will be supplied food, medicines and other supplies at their doorsteps and they will not be allowed to leave these areas.
Authorities also made it compulsory for people to wear face masks when stepping outdoors in areas not covered by these restrictions in the two states.
The sealing of hot spots came as the number of confirmed cases in India crossed the 5,000 mark, with 166 deaths, according to India’s Health Ministry.

VIRGINIA - HEROS

Virginia teen flies medical supplies to hospitals in rural communities

Kim, 16, was disappointed when the coronavirus pandemic ended his school year early and he was no longer able to play lacrosse. Kim started taking flying lessons last year, and decided with the extra time he now had, he would collect as much personal protective equipment as possible to distribute to hospitals in rural areas. On March 27, he packed his plane with gowns, masks, and gloves, and delivered them to a 25-bed hospital in Luray.
