There have been a lot more empty seats at President Donald Trump's daily news briefings - but no, news organizations aren't boycotting the events in protest or attempting to silence him, despite what he suggested at a briefing this week.
Instead, something else is afoot: Reporters are keeping their distance because they are concerned about the health risks at a time when many consider the president's evening news conferences to have become increasingly less newsworthy.

The decision by such outlets as The Washington Post, The New York Times and CNBC to stay away may be fundamentally changing the character of the briefings. With veteran White House reporters on the sidelines, the president has primarily engaged with TV journalists, including one from a small, far-right conservative news channel that rarely gets such a prominent stage.
The Post, The Times and CNBC stopped sending reporters to the briefings - which have taken place in the Rose Garden as well as the more cramped confines of the West Wing's James S. Brady Press Briefing Room - after two White House correspondents were suspected of having contracted covid-19, the disease caused by the virus. (One of the reporters, who hasn't been publicly identified, tested negative on Tuesday, according to ABC News' Jonathan Karl, the president of the White House Correspondents Association).
Times Executive Editor Dean Baquet said his organization has withdrawn its reporters from the briefings, both because of health considerations and the uncertain newsworthiness. Reporters continue to monitor them on TV and report anything worthwhile.
"Nowadays, it seems they make little news," he said. "We, of course, reserve the right to show them live [via streaming] if we believe they will actually make news. But that hasn't happened in quite some time."

Good point. Even his adoring fans in the Enemedia admitted The One didn’t start most of his days until 10:00 AM. By then Trump has probably went through a stack of policy papers, briefings, and conducted telephone calls and face to face meetings with lawmakers, and cabinet officials!
Had this been the One we’d of never heard of the wuhan virus except in passing. No schools, courthouses, restaurants closed either.

There are only a limited number of seats for the press at these briefings due “Social Distancing”. THAT is the reason for the empty seats.
As far as lacking interesting news then why do the media repeat the press briefings ad nauseam with their headlines, and stories the 24 hour news cycle following the briefings? Must be something of interest for them to do so.

They want to filter it and put the DNC-approved spin on it before report it.

The propaganda press doesn't televise the briefings live because they do not want their viewers to see the full answer that PDJT gives to their reporter's snarky questions. They prefer framing a selected sound bite of the President in a way to make him look bad, even if their framing is a lie.

Cuomo for some reason does not have that designation by the MSM. It must be that the governor’s distancing arrangements are far more acceptable to the dark side.And it is the dark side that gleefully announces the draconian measures whichi must invest our efforts to combat this pestilence while the side of light does so mournfully.
Never in the history of out country have the differences between the forces of light and the forces of darkness been so stark and well defined.
And do you think the People do not notice? They do.
And the consequences of that will play out one way or another.
FOX News still takes the pressers, they will gain audience share bigly. People don’t want spin from NorDUH O’Donnell or F. Chuck todd, they wasn’t to listen to the pressers.

What the Compost really meant was; less FAKE-newsworthy.
Obviously, their agenda doesn't include covering the President delivering facts, daily updates and words of comfort to the American people.
They'd only report something they can "creatively" edit to make him look bad.
