A tractor-trailer carrying toilet paper caught fire overnight in Hutchins, according to local officials.

The driver of the truck is OK, authorities told WFAA.

The fire shut down all lanes of westbound Interstate 20 around 4:15 a.m. near Interstate 45 in Hutchins, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.

The toilet paper, which appeared to be large rolls typical of commercial use, was scattered across the roadway. TxDOT officials said the tractor-trailer and the load of toilet paper "burned extensively," estimating it would take authorities "some time" to clean up.

When I was a kid in Mississippi, a train car loaded with cotton bales caught fire and they put it on a side line in my town. Wind caught the burning cotton and blew it across the road and burned down a brand new church and damaged several houses.................

...large rolls typical of commercial use...

We were able to score some of that stuff from a contact in the commercial cleaning business. It’s better than nothing. But not much.

In the normal, pre-virus world, the key concern here would be the shutdown of a major interstate highway. But now, in upside-down world, the reaction to the loss of the load of toilet paper is, “Why God, why?!!!”, while the shutdown of the freeway is, “Eh, whatever.”

“I can’t think of anything that would go up faster than toilet paper.”

Remember setting the old dried-out family Christmas tree on fire out in the backyard? Those things went up faster than an old Kodak camera flash bulb.

The good old days...

BTW, we had 365 topics (those that remain anyway) yesterday. Anecdotally it had seemed as if the number of topics per day had risen in the quarantine, but had not checked before. February 1st we had 218 topics (that's what's left, anyway) so the March 31 rate (and this isn't rigorous, obviously) shows a 2/3 increase. At 365 days a year, 365 topics per day, that would be 133,225 topics per year. 'Smokes!
