You get to do ALL the cool stuff.
The funniest thing I ever saw on the Drew Carey show was during the election that gave us the hanging chad crisis...kept breaking into the show with side comments on the election and while I was afraid we might get Gore, it was funny because it kind of showcased the broken system of American politics...
Well I recall when Bob did Truth or Consequences. I even recall when Alex Trebek was a local news guy here in Toronto. Going way back here. :)
I recall hearing that the Prizes aren’t awarded to the Contestants until the Show is aired.
Years ago a Gal I knew won two Cadillac’s on The Price is Right.
I was dragged to it against my wlll. eight hours in line for 52 minutes taping. But it was with Bob Barker, so that was cool. The guy next o me made it all the way to the showcase and won. He won like $24,000 — and what was and was given a tax bill for 40% that.
On Wheel of Fortune, I'm pretty sure they keep black tube tops in reserve and issue them to women who may show a little too much information when leaning over to spin the wheel. Anytime a woman has a plunging neckline she's got a black tube top on underneath. Wheel of fortune also (again, this is observation) will coach people when they break filming to insert commercials. I've seen several where someone is jumping, screaming and going nuts, then a commercial break and they're subdued the rest of the game.
A friend won a trip like that on a game show years ago. Because of the taxes to be paid, which are based on the full retail cost of the trip, she, like most winners, take a cash equivalent instead. In essence, the "trip" ends up being nothing more than an in-kind advertisement for the group that sponsored the prize. Works similarly to the cars they give away.
Unless the contestant wins a bunch of money as well to cover the taxes, prizes are seldom kept.
I’ve heard that the IRS has an agent on the set of all of these shows to present the winner with a tax bill IMMEDIATELY.
BeijingED
a friend I work with was on this show several years back,, and the one where they dress up .. he had a good time he says..
I had relatives from East McKeesport. Very near Pittsburgh.
Holy cow!
Bump on down!
Actually, Burger King raised the prices before the shut down. The mailer came the same day as the restaurant shut down their dining rooms.
I think I would rather win a Zonk prize on Let’s Make a Deal like a year’s supply of toilet paper.
They did give away a trip on WOF once to WHERE I LIVE!...............
AntennaTV had a nice advertisement for TI (Treasure Island) “on the fabulous Las Vegas Strip” yesterday. Limited Time Offer, it said.
Yeah, they got the clue!
I agree. Maybe they’ll get a freebie next time? Who am I kidding!
