Do you remember Lone Star beer? Terrible in cans but not bad on draft.

And not a fruit nor a musky hint of saffron in any of it.

Hamms was popular back in the day but only the old guys drank it.

I play lots of senior softball in the spring, summer and fall and played with this old guy named Homer.

Homer was a cheap ass, penny pinching leftist who always brought Hamms beer to the picnic table after our games. He and I once got into an argument where he claimed that Communism was the perfect form of govt..........But I digress...

Two years ago after a pick up game, we were sitting at the picnic table when one of the guys drove out to pick up a couple of pizzas for us. Another guy named Nick said to Homer, "when are you going to buy us a pizza?" Homer laughed and said "Over my dead body".........

Well, a week later Homer died and never having married, he left his vast wealth to his niece and nephew but it took us almost two weeks to locate them while Homer rested in the local morgue.

So the niece and nephew held the funeral as well as the dinner afterwards at a local bar and restaurant.

All the guys who attended took advantage of the open bar and menu and ordered to their heart's content knowing that finally Homer ultimately paid for something.................LOL!

As cruel as it might seem, we still joke about Homer's last words......."Over My Dead Body"........

Rolling Rock was the favorite libation of my grandfather, who was a fairly well-connected bigwig in the local Democrat Party.

I remember walking into his kitchen one day in 1980 and seeing him at the table with this sullen, ashen look on his face. He looked like he had seen a ghost. I counted at least five empty green bottles there, perhaps there were more.

“What’s the matter, Grandpa?” I asked.

“It just dawned on me today that Carter is doing such a complete and thorough job of screwing-up the country that I have no choice but to vote for this Reagan guy.”

The first of many lifelong Dems to head for the exits. In his case with a little help from Rolling Rock.

I’m impressed just seeing a man drive a vehicle in a tv commercial. How did he get around without some woman to drive him and let him hide behind her apron?

Used to frequent the Schmidt brewery caves in the 80s, usually while tripping on acid. Thru

Sure, we all did that so as not to throw the tab on the ground. They were not connected to the can at the time.

Hamms Beer was delivered in central Iowa by John Cimino Distributing of Des Moines.

John sent his beer trucks every week to St. Paul to pick up as much as they could carry but neighborhood delivery trucks were limited.

Then John saw an ad for some grain trailers that had been put up for sale by “Occo Feeds.” The trailers had “OCCO FEEDS” stenciled on each side and could carry twice as much beer at little additional cost.

Despite wearing a gold Rolex and high priced business suits, John was a frugal man. He had a local body shop add the numeral “1” and retouch the “OCCO” into “10,000.” A bit of paint changed “Feeds” into “Beers.”

A reporter asked John if there really were 10,000 beers on the trucks.
His response was, “There's at least that many.”
