Which time around? It was H1N1, for Chrissakes. You and I have it.

Exposed doesn’t mean sick. It means you’ve generated antibodies to it.

Still bargaining.

We have plenty of data from SK and under the best case scenario for containment we have a 1.3% (sadly will continue to grow now that the tail-end deaths are accumulating) DCR and a 3.3% CFR (those numbers will converge somewhere in between). I repeat, that’s a total containment effort.

What you want to do is put us on the Italy collapse-the-HCS track. That’s a 9.9 DCR and a 45% CFR. Those numbers will likely also meet somewhere in the middle. And Spain will be right behind. Let’s NOT do that here, m’kay?

Arkansas, too, has jumped from 197 yesterday to 230 currently, with 2 deaths and 9 recoveries.

The numbers of positives will likely increase as more testing sites open.

sure. I read about the lower-income-bracket and unemployed gal that rec’d a $35K bill. She can apply to Medicaid (welfare). They generally pay two or three months prior medical along with giving her current medical coverage while she’s unemployed and seeking work. She can also apply directly to the hospital for “charity care” to forgive the bill. If a hospital receives fed funds hospitals are supposed to have that option as a possibility - they recoup that from the feds some how. But most won’t tell you about it.

What is the criteria/metric for when the shutdown can be rolled back in selected areas?

I am so cynical that I think the criteria will be when a locality runs out of tests/lab materials/ppe to process the tests, and then shows a substantial decline in positives for a week. ;-)

A million dead, mostly elderly, will not cause civil unrest. The prediction of the Imperial College London study which has been frequently linked in these CV threads was that two million Americans (mostly elderly) would die if the state and national governments do nothing, and one million if they do the best which can be reasonably expected of them.

What might cause civil unrest will be the clogged medical system nationwide during the year that all this will be going on.

China's solution to the latter problem is to deny medical care entirely to the elderly, and provide only basic medical care to younger CV victims, i.e., generally outpatient-only. Except, of course, for the politically connected who are hospitalized and get first call on ICU's and ventilators.

Like I said earlier, this is a bad time to be old in China. We'll get interesting stories out of there when this is over and China lets foreigners back in.

In no particular order: I would be totally in favor of workers getting tested for temps at the building entrance. If you have a favor, you go home. Testing for everyone, once there are enough test kits. Serological tests for people suspected of having COVID-19 but no definitive diagnosis, to gather better data.

“Also, my comments to impimp were because he/she misunderstands what the CFR is, and then using that very misunderstanding to justify the flubro position.”

When I posted the same definition - which I agree impimp was misreading - the FluBros would violently argue and dish abuse because they were trying to conflate DCR and CFR. They were really nasty (although I make a point to give as good as I get when that happens). Now they are using the proper definition but misreading it. It’s hilarious.

Any CFR calculated at this point is transient. I call it the “instantaneous CFR”. When it gets close to the DCR you can start thinking of it as close to final, as most of the cases will have resolved.

The 401(k) was the single worst financial product ever created. It has lead to short term thinking, poor seniors, and has handed incredible power to a small group of financial analysts who will crush your company if you don’t dance to their tune.

Yes, has led to laziness.

I remember on FR in the early 2000's and some people were lamenting that they had put most? / all? of the Enron 401(k) in Enron stock! There were stories of managers pressuring employees to do that. I remember thinking - there's no way the company has access to what each employee is invested in - how could they know?

Knew some people who did the same with DEC and EK. Luckily the slide to oblivion was more gradual.

Everyone on the Diamond Princess cruise ship quarantined on board in Japan was tested. They found 400 people who had CV but no symptoms to go with the 305 sick people who were identified with it prior to the final test series.

It is very fair to say that there are at least as many asymptomatic CV victims as those who have symptoms. That's been my working hypothesis since those Diamond Princess statistics came out. There might be several times as many asymptomatic as symptomatic. We just don't know now, and probably won't until after the pandemic is over.

"This is why this 4% number for Corona is BS as many people get infected and don’t get sick. This is what makes it just the flu, bro, from a death perspective.

Do you have a link to the infected who don't get sick? Do you have data to back it up?"

“That only works when those who developed CV during the 15-day period are also tested for it” AND THE TEST RESULTS COME BACK IMMEDIATELY.

I don’t think so. Superspreaders would be infected prior to lockup. So 15 days could approach the 21 days for superspreaders to show symptoms/test positive. Anyone else locked up during the 15 days are only going to get infected from their family members - unless they break quarantine and then their time starts all over. Like me - I’m three days behind the 15.

Test at the end of 15 days - negative - you get to go work for a senior/business owner. Not negative, sorry Charlie. You’re getting treatment and a longer quarantine. Same as we did with the airlift folks.

DEC.

I see the carcass of DEC every time I drive from Springfield to Portland. I hadn’t thought of them in years.

“They found 400 people who had CV but no symptoms”

No symptoms at the time of test result. How many needed to be ventilated 10 days later? That’s something I never see reported.

“The question remains, if taken prophylactically, do you develop antibodies if exposed. If not, you’re just kicking the can down the road.”

You take it as a prophylactic until there is a vaccine.

Worked for them in 89-90. What a great job. Learned so much. But when one of the “old-timers” took the first voluntary retirement in early 90, he told me “It’s all about the PC now, you better make some plans elsewhere”. Left in mid-90. Still used their stuff for 15 years after that. Miss OpenVMS. Nice OS.

At my local Save Mart in Modesto CA they have completely restocked everything. Even fresh beef, milk, TP and bottled water.

I was astounded.
