I’m trying my hand at gardening. Tilled up my lovely georgia red dirt. I mixed in miracle grow garden soil before planting seed.
We are trying sweet corn, onions, Yukon potatoes, tomatoes which will be put in pots after they start inside, strawberries, watermelon, cantaloupe and blackberries.
Followed directions on seed packets so hopefully we will get some nice fruits and veges.
I fenced off the area, 10×25 already so the deer and other critters don’t get to them.
How is the Georgia soil for gardening? It wasn’t really Clay I was planting in, below the tilled surface was pretty hard though.
The tariffs didn’t bring them home. It sent them to other Asian countries, India and South America.
My point about the virus is that it does not care what anyone thinks, what anyone hopes for. It does not care about the economy and jobs. It has no mercy, and does not allow room for error.
It should not be underestimated.
Those humans anywhere in the world who are quick to say “we have turned the corner”, “we have stopped the virus”, etc. are going to be burned very badly—every time—until we have vaccines and/or meds that work at scale.

On the onion idea, plant a couple of pots in about a 4x4 planter box, preferably off the ground, near your kitchen door, along with basil, oregano, thyme, parsley, and other fav herbs, and you'll almost always have fresh herbs for cooking. And you'll only have to step outside your kitchen door with a pair of scissors for when you need them. A far better method than digging through the bottom of a refrigerator crisper for slimy onions, parsley, etc., and salvaging what you can to cook with. :)

Good luck with your garden! It’s always a learning experience, don’t get disapponted if something doesn’t work. It can be an iterative process with some stuff. For us it was sweet peppers.
And some things won’t set blooms if it gets too hot/humid (tomatoes, some peppers, some winter squash). Be patient, keep the plants watered and alive and this fall you’ll be picking them by the 5 gallon bucket.
One thing I find useful in a southern garden is bleach. Good old clorox. Regular clorox or concentrated. Take 1 gallon of water, 8oz of regular clorox OR 5oz of the concentrated, mix in a pump sprayer. Spray AFTER the sun goes down. This controls blights/fungus and other foliar diseases. The spraying after dark is because the sun reacting with the bleach will ‘burn’ your plants and also because: bees.
Good advice. I think it's advice that people should take whenever they are dealing with the unknown. Especially with viruses that can burn quickly through an area if precautions are not taken.
When I was depopulating feral cat colonies (not killing them), we had the rabies pre-exposure series. On person did not, and said the chance of getting were remote.
Told him to google up human rabies and watch some of the videos on YouTube. And told him to remember it spreads primarily by saliva

I grow herbs too. I dry them upside on strings, covered by paper bags to keep the dust off.
