I have not seen any indication that hospitals were being ovewhelmed by H1N1 patients. That is not the case today in Italy and perhaps soon in New York City.

Yes, I want people to be careful, wash their hands, limit exposure to people who are very old or ill, but we can’t keep the economy shut down much longer without permanent damage being done.

I’m no fan of Fauci, but he does appear to have gotten it right. Italy has already surpassed our 13000 dead twice over (proportional to their population), and they have no end in sight.

In reflection of H1N1 in 2009, the CDC/NIH, ETC developed the current approach implemented by the CDC/NIH, etc.
Compare this to the FEMA disaxter relief activities. In both cases the Feds act at the request of Governors. State and local governments have Public Health Departments and are expected to take the lead. The CDC, NIH and all Feds are expected to support requests from State and local government.
This is Katrina all over again. The Democrat governor and mayor fail to do what they are supposed to do, and then blame the central government. And these are the people who want to be the leaders at the central goverment level, where they will then wait for the WHO to tell them what to do.
