Non-essential business in Fort Lauderdale now closed.
Of course, definition is so loose that you could drive a school bus full of illegal immigrant day labor roofers through it.

China shut most of everything down ....hardly any air pollution means they shut most of the factories too
Good morning.
Those Mercy ships will be wonderful....but....they must test everyone who is on board or goes on board for any reason...every day.
Or, they will become part of the problem instead of part of the solution.
If there are not enough tests, _no-one_ should be on board.
Fascinating article on the decision to be made at the end of the US fifteen day “pause”:

This is going to be a _wild_ ride, because we know that if the “play” key is hit the virus will work its will....until DC panics and hits the “pause” button again.....

Israel to gradually impose full lockdown — the country will be divided by security forces into small operational zones, and police and army forces will patrol the streets to check if people are outdoors.

We need this in New York City, DeBlasio's sanctuary city must not be allow to infect other areas.
IMHO this is to moderate the risk to the economy itself, but also to the insurance risk pools. And we’re alternating between them.
On economic pause, the economy gets a hit.
On ‘go’, people get infected and the insurance risk pools ultimately take a hit when they need care.
We definitely don’t want to hit the insurance companies all at once with a ‘power through it’ approach. They can handle a cat 1 or 2 ‘cane. They can’t handle a cat 5 everywhere all at once.
These are crazy times.
Nobody is smart enough to manage this crisis—and very few folks are smart enough to know what they don’t know.
My only wish is just that public officials stop lying about stuff—big ask I know... :-(
I’m not as worried now, with the antivirals we have coming.
Look for the managed lockdowns to be shorter and more isolated geographically.
If we knew the anti-virals would work at scale, and knew when we would have them available, then a lockdown until that moment would be the best move imho...
I think that’s what Trump is hinting in his tweet about revisiting the lockdowns.
We’ll have a cpl weeks of data, possibly more depending on what’s been done prior.
We need to keep enough people from getting this seriously enough to require ICU and/or ventilator. That will wreck the insurance companies. And the finances of everyone who gets that treatment. How many people can afford million dollar hospital bills. And if enough people ‘win’ that lottery, what will THAT do to the economy all by itself...
It sounds like .gov plans to cover those hospital bills and add it to the national debt...Of course they have not (yet) actually passed a bill doing that.
There are no good answers.
The best answer involves antivirals to keep most, if not all, people out of the hospital with this altogether.
Lockdowns are logical. But, a long-time friend lost her dad, who was in hospice yesterday, and the family was barred from being with him. There were 2 aides with him, thankfully.
I have another friend whose mother had a massive stroke a few days back. She had another stroke early this morning.
I get why hospitals have to lock down; I really do. But the emotional cost is high for individuals who are separated from gravely ill, dying, parents, spouses, siblings, or, worst of all, children.
“Quarantine was enforced on day 1 for every positive case.”
I know, in Taiwan it was a $31,000 fine, and probably jail time. They’re not playing cute there.
None of this would be necessary if loved ones could be tested before they entered the hospital, and the results were available in a reasonable time (say, less than an hour).
Likewise, none of this would be necessary if the hospitals had ample supplies of biogear they could loan to families (and the facilities for sanitizing the biogear after it was used).
Logistics matters.
My favorite was the Wuhan video where someone stepped out of their apartment not wearing a mask.
A drone immediately appeared and told them to return to their apartment.
When they refused several guys in biosuits attacked them and hauled them off....
Straight out of a sci-fi dystopia movie..
Michigan will announce lockdown at 11AM EDT today.
