more Panda Propaganda.

A day ago, China was saying that the US had to have had the virus for a long time for us to have a vaccine trial this month. Today, China says they started a vaccine trial the same day as America. Xinhau doesn’t see the stupidity of either propaganda and is blind to their timing.

Crowding and the recirculated air of HVAC is deadly.
Whether a ship, nursing home...or hospital.

MedCram Lecture
Dr. Roger Seheult

COVID-19 Ventilator Course: Learn or Review Mechanical Ventilation (Free at MedCram.com)

We understand that medical professionals (and students) that don’t have significant experience with mechanical ventilation may be called upon to help ventilator management teams in critical care settings. And clinicians with extensive ventilator experience may want a refresher or a tool to aid in teaching mechanical ventilation strategies to other clinicians.

This video series is a collection of previously recorded MedCram videos on mechanical ventilation with the addition of some COVID-19 specific videos.

This course will remain free, please share it with anyone you think may be interested. We hope you find it helpful, and we welcome feedback.

“I put our mail in the toaster oven at 200 for 10 minutes. The plastic melts a little bit. I know my temp and time is a bit on the high side.”

Temp is high, but time is low based on the suggestions I’ve seen. 165 for 15? I’d do more research.

How to wash fruits and vegetables during the coronavirus crisis
[mostly wash under clear water to remove dirt and dry on paper towel]

“If you would prefer more extensive vegetable cleaning, here is what food scientist Harold McGee wrote in his book “On Food and Cooking”: “Soapy water and commercial produce washes are more effective than water alone. Washing can reduce microbial populations a hundredfold, but it’s impossible to eliminate all microbes from uncooked lettuce and other produce — they can evade even heavily chlorinated water by hiding in microscopic pores and cracks in the plant tissue. Raw salads are therefore not advised for people who are especially vulnerable to infections. Once fruits and vegetables are cut up, they should be kept refrigerated and used as soon as possible.”

States work to limit prescriptions of potential coronavirus drugs

...In addition to malaria, hydroxychloroquine is used to treat lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. Doctors and pharmacists said hoarding it for coronavirus could hurt patients with those conditions.

Pharmacists have already seen doctors prescribing the drugs for themselves or their families, according to Erin Fox, senior director of drug information at University of Utah Health, which has 12 retail pharmacies.

“We saw this specifically at our organization and we worked quickly to not fill those prescriptions,” Fox said.

The following may be a solution to the stranded Americans - fly United instead of waiting for an airlift?

United Airlines will reinstate several International flights that the Chicago-based carrier just hours ago said it planned to suspend.
The further schedule adjustments are all tied to the coronavirus outbreak and the carrier’s efforts to urgently transport customers where they need to be...

...United said it is working with both the U.S. Department of State and local governments worldwide to gain permission to operate service.

A large manufacturer of protective N95 masks for medical workers said it is shipping half a million masks to New York and Seattle, with arrivals starting Monday...

...3M factories in South Dakota and Nebraska are now producing 35 million N95 masks a month, 90 percent of which are designated for health-care workers after a change in law last week eliminated the threat of lawsuits from such sales

“Increasing temperature to 65°C had a strong negative effect on viral infectivity as virucidy dropped significantly to 1 minute. Fifteen minutes at 65°C is more than sufficient to totally inactivate the sample.”

Thanks PA for the MERS virus study, MERS, SARS, Covid-19 all in the same family. 65C= 150F. I guess if I turn down the heat from 200F and cook it a bit longer (15 minutes instead of 10) that will keep my plastic windows on the envelopes from melting.

Great news on the 3M masks hitting the road to the medical community. I have a box of 10 that I was thinking I might be able to spare. Have been rotating through a few masks and getting a long life out of them, and thinking I could donate some. But it would be nice to keep mine for friends and neighbors too.

Good idea. ;-)

Just heard a good simple explanation to those who claim they have a strong immune system. "You are not immune to your own immune system."

Great explanation for some of those in denial.

Finally getting to bed. We arranged collections of PPE and supplies today from local school districts. The numbers we are seeing for instance on Worldometer, are not the current cases. Just a hint. Local unit beds in Western PA Pittsburgh peripheral hospitals jumped today. We are not getting good numbers.

Wife took a week vacation and is setting up for telemedicine. Started ventilation course for surge.
