I don’t disagree with anything you are saying. However, much of the dialog in our community does not appear to exhibit the cool, calm, reasoned, appropriately cautious courage you described. While this virus is new we do know a lot about viral epidemics in general as there have been a number of vicious ones in the recent past. The public should receive information in that context. One thing that we know is that almost all epidemics have exponential growth in infections in the early stages. That generally does not get communicated. Also, until more testing gets done the numerator of fatality rates and morbidity rates are reasonably accurate, whereas nobody really knows what the right number is for the denominator should be and we won’t for a while.

A concern is that taking the position that everyone is equally at risk and using mass quarantine as the front line tool could divert attention and resources away from known vulnerable populations (elderly and people who are already very ill). It is reminiscent of the aids panic when we were told that everybody was at risk and early on we failed to take steps that might have limited its spread (like closing gay bath houses, dealing with intravenous drug users problems and monitoring female partners of bisexual men). Also, I have seen situations where medical people, rightly focused on the problem in front of them, failed to consider collateral damage just out of immediate view.

In an attempt to thwart additional personal insults on this thread

I propose we all:

STAY CALM

TAKE PRECAUTIONS

ENJOY THE SOLITUDE OF THIS TIME

AND BUY NCLH, XOM, HD and other insane stock bargains.

Here on Free Republic (as in other online conservative communities) the Coronavirus has become the new “global warming”. Not that the virus is not dangerous or that precautions are not in order, but like global warming zealots, anyone who asks for calm sober analysis and discussion is labeled as a “denier” to shut off discussion. Asking if killing the global economy might be more dangerous than the impact of the virus is not denying that the virus is dangerous.

I use the chloroquine stuff in a drug that I take for a mouth problem. Maybe having to take it, been on it for several years, will help me fight this stuff off.

Give them Chloroquine!

I have heard this morning from two friends who say people they know, in critical condition, took this malaria drug and almost immediately saw huge improvements in their condition.

” people they know, in critical condition, took this malaria drug and almost immediately saw huge improvements in their condition.”

Ingraham reported that one patient at death’s door was given chloroquine and recovered ASAP, “like Lazarus”.

There are no deniers on FR. There are only people who dislike pushing panic. What good does panic do? It has done nothing so far except crash our economy.

That’s bit of a rhino whistle* analysis: I am quite sure the people who received the SARS vaccine were people in high risk situations and prone to complications from lung disease.

* the rhino whistle stems from a whistle I blow each morning in the Golan. I believe it drives away wild hippos. So far it has a 100% success rate, although one tour bus with fat Canadians had me worried for a bit.

“Coronavirus is dangerous and merits caution. But I fear that the hysteria virus will be far more dangerous”

No kidding. Normally rational FReepers have not believed one word from the MSM for at least a decade. But suddenly, in February 2020, they decided that the media decided to tell the truth about this one thing. The resultant irrational panic has brought the country and economy to a standstill, and have turned so many in to quivering sheeple.

It’s embarrassing.

That study involved mice.

I can find no information on any nation implementing the SARS vaccine in a non clinical trial manner.

Do you have such information?

Asking because I have a file of relevant articles and would like to add that one as well.

The stock market began crashing when the traders realized there were no significant shipment from China in weeks and weeks.

Most of our retail and a good deal of our ‘manufacturing’ depend on those shipments. Without them...we twiddle our thumbs.

Does anyone really think that the Chinese government is being truthful about the number of infected or dead?

Yeah, thought so.

Personally, I of the opinion, and it is my opinion, they are purposely loosing a factor of ten (10) on their published numbers. I base this on just the anecdotal information on the web.

Traders on Wall St. are the worst hysterics than anything I’ve seen on FR.

The photos in the article have the face blurred of one patient without the bubble helmet, but un-obscured of the ones with the bubbles? Just an observation.

“The use of the term “denier” is an ad hominem attack and marks the accuser as being unwilling to engage in civil discourse.”

+1

Calling people “deniers” is also inaccurate - nobody is denying anything. Worst case scenarios are by definition not the likely scenarios. Pointing that out is not denial.

“Better safe than sorry” is a fine adage, because it speaks to the value of preparedness - and preparedness is a very good thing.

But preparedness isn’t our only guard against worst case scenarios. We also have reason and probability on our side.

It is perfectly reasonable to point out that the worst case scenario is highly unlikely. And that panic has its own dangers.

You are so easily gaslighted into believing this communist propaganda. You have nothing but a video that isn’t in context.
