“But it beckons...”

For Mrs CP sake, I have avoided the temptation. Her adjustment has not been too smooth, if she saw a bottle it might push her to...a negative reaction.

Better to let her come to that decision.

The census collects data for other federal agencies all the time.

For example, they are one of the sources for the unemployment figures.

They survey businesses for that.

They also survey for crime statistics.

There are other things as well.

I dug out paperwork from when my wife got the diagnosis for COPD and was prescribed a nebulizer w/albuterol and inhalers. She took that to work last night to the nursing home she works at so she could show it to her boss. She might come home today and stay home for a couple of weeks. She should according to the guidelines but as of the evening news last night, Missouri hasn’t adopted those guidelines yet. News people were shaming a restaurant/pub in St Louis for being open. A reporter at yesterday’s task force presser asked about the handful of States not doing anything and Trump said, we know who they are and will be talking to them.

My personal feeling is that our location doesn’t need to start the two week thing for another week or so. It’s not like we’re near a hotspot and it takes time to get from one place to another and spread between persons. On the other hand we don’t really know how much of it is where.

I don’t think two weeks will be enough just because this thing does take time to spread.

Person A gets it and carries it for 10 days, with no symptoms, before giving it to person B. Person B can be a carrier for 14 or more days and if they’re young, may never show symptoms. That’s the silent enemy thing they talk about. Person B walks around for a couple of weeks before they give it to persons, C, D, E, F -— X, etc.

14 days not enough. I bet they extend it another two weeks.

It’s crazy shutting the country down for a month but it’s also crazy getting to a point where hospitals are saying, nope, you go home and die. Can’t do anything for you. MSM would have a field day with that. Sick bastards that they are. As of yesterday they’ve started saying good thing about Trump but they’ll turn on him in a second.

I feel really bad for Trump. All the shit he’s been through yet managed to build up the economy and kill unemployment just for this to happen. He’s taking it well. Just another challenge. Something to do better than anyone else would. Something to WIN. Such a badass.

“...the Chinese Virus!”

I think Trump is using the term “Chinese Virus” to remind people just who, exactly, is responsible for unleashing this crap on the world. He tried playing nice with them, to get answers on how to control and treat, and got nowhere - so now it’s Cold War 2 time.

Bob:

I have been thinking about the best personal strategy with the “teenage driver” strategy in place.

Since I am retired I have the luxury of deciding on what to do.

My read is that I should wait until the current hysteria is over and stores get nice and calm, and then restock (maybe late April?).

Once the accelerator is hit (June, July) everybody will be out there infecting everybody else. Then we get to listen to “we got through it”, “Trump saved us”. If you can, you really want to be in deep hibernation at that point.

I like the idea. Ambulance bags can be used on intubated patients, too, so that might be an option that would resolve any issues with getting an airtight seal around the face with a face mask.

So, I thought I would run through the "teenage driver" scenario using as a test case the 435 members of the House of Representatives.

They are a large enough sample size so that the numbers should be in range.

There will also be news coverage when they positive, when they get sick, the severity of their sickness, and of course if any die.

First acceleration (unintentional imho):
5% get infected = 22 members will ultimately test positive
15% hospitalization = 3 are hospitalizations
Maybe one death out of these, if one of the real old timers gets it.

We should be seeing these numbers in the next month or so, if the model is correct.

Then we should see minimal activity until the first victory declaration, "all clear" is sounded.

Then expect to repeat these numbers (with a one month lag time) until we slam on the brakes again...

Thanks, I’m semi-retired and can probably stay isolated indefinitely too, if need be (other than off-peak supply runs, as you mention).

Me and my wife were traveling like crazy for the past few years, but she was always saying “I want to stay home and enjoy the house for a while”...now she gets to do it! And she’s fine, and so am I. Maybe we’ll start some domestic travel in the fall of 2021...maybe.

International travel would be later, probably another year. Cruises won’t resume until 2023. And I’ll be waiting to hear a few things before either them - for airplanes, no more recirculated air. The extra fuel cost for constant fresh air is $1.00 on a $500.00 ticket (i.e., 0.2%), I think that’s worthwhile. For cruise ships, I want to hear of UV zapping of viruses, and serious filtration - and even then I’ll still wait at least a year after the new cruise lines are running, to make sure they’re not, yet again, infecting people.

Early Clinical and CT Manifestations of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Pneumonia

Abstract

OBJECTIVE. The purpose of this study was to investigate early clinical and CT manifestations of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pneumonia. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Patients with COVID-19 pneumonia confirmed by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) nucleic acid test (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) were enrolled in this retrospective study. The clinical manifestations, laboratory results, and CT findings were evaluated. RESULTS. One hundred eight patients (38 men, 70 women; age range, 21-90 years) were included in the study. The clinical manifestations were fever in 94 of 108 (87%) patients, dry cough in 65 (60%), and fatigue in 42 (39%). The laboratory results were normal WBC count in 97 (90%) patients and normal or reduced lymphocyte count in 65 (60%). High-sensitivity C-reactive protein level was elevated in 107 (99%) patients. The distribution of involved lobes was one lobe in 38 (35%) patients, two or three lobes in 24 (22%), and four or five lobes in 46 (43%). The major involvement was peripheral (97 patients [90%]), and the common lesion shape was patchy (93 patients [86%]). Sixty-five (60%) patients had ground-glass opacity (GGO), and 44 (41%) had GGO with consolidation. The size of lesions varied from smaller than 1 cm (10 patients [9%]) to larger than 3 cm (56 patients [52%]). Vascular thickening (86 patients [80%]), crazy paving pattern (43 patients [40%]), air bronchogram sign (52 patients [48%]), and halo sign (69 [64%]) were also observed in this study. CONCLUSION. The early clinical and laboratory findings of COVID-19 pneumonia are low to midgrade fever, dry cough, and fatigue with normal WBC count, reduced lymphocyte count, and elevated high-sensitivity C-reactive protein level. The early CT findings are patchy GGO with or without consolidation involving multiple lobes, mainly in the peripheral zone, accompanied by halo sign, vascular thickening, crazy paving pattern, or air bronchogram sign.

In automobiles these days, you can set the AC and sometimes heat to either recirculate the cabin air or to pull in fresh air. I don’t know about cruise ships. Would they have that capability to pull in fresh air?

Visited my buddy/neighbor yesterday. He said a lady at the dollar store was buying napkins to send to her daughter in Colorado for use as TP. Seems like Colorado shelves will be restocked before the napkin/TP gets there unless she’s overnighting them.

FNC had on Cardinal Dolan a bit ago. He said just because the church is closed doesn’t mean God is. He explained the church is only a building. Only the building is closed. His job goes on. Smart man.

Jeffers wants people inside the his building.

It’s easier to get money from them if they are inside the building.

Abbott is probably getting close to shutting down portions of the state. Imo, DFW area, Austin and Houston.

I picked up some more seed potatoes yesterday. Already had Red Pontiac and picked up Yukon Gold and Kennebec yesterday after noticing the store has zero eating potatoes. The kennebec are a russet/storage type. Need to get going on that root cellar. Got my seed order in with Baker Creek a couple of days ago. Two young hens are now laying cute little brown eggs every day. Third hen is a little smaller. Young rooster’s crow is sounding like a rooster crowing now. Took him a week to get the sound right. Can’t do any digging on the garden yet because rain, rain. Can’t dig on my post holes because they’re full of water. Root cellar is on a hillside, North facing of course and that soil drains well so I can do that whenever it’s not actually raining. So much to do. Picked up a couple of metal trash cans and got dog food and layer crumbles to fill them. Won’t have to go out and buy any for a while. 50 miles round trip since our local feed store shut it doors. Got some steel to buy and welding to do for a high tunnel frame. Won’t be ready for Spring but will be for fall to extend the end of the growing season. Can grow cool weather crops right through winter if using floating row covers too. The Great Pyrenees watches and listens to me. I think he knows there’s a big fence going up. He protected 400 head of sheep. I hope he likes goats. Active crazy sheep like things.
