Holy moley!
I have a bit of a cold or something. I am out of Kleenex for my constantly runny nose (yeah, I know *yech* TMI -- but it is important to the story).
I always get up early, so I ran to the nearby Ralphs which purpotes to be open 24 hrs. I encounter a hand-written sign "open from 8 AM to 8 PM."
Well, dangit!
OK, I go back at 8 AM. There is a HUGE LINE to get in!! There was a clerk at the door managing the line so she says I have to wait until the line finishes.
Fair enough. It took the line 10 minutes to finish. When I got to the paper goods, I literally got the last box of Kleenex and the second to the last 8 back of : paper towels. Toilet paper: gone. By the time I snagged the Kleenex and paper towels the shelf was empty!
I have to ask W T H??? Fortunately at home we have Costco levels of this stuff. You preppers can get rich reselling your supplies.
I am on the road in CA (I live in TX) so I can only do what I can do.
I originally thought that as well. But with 3/4 of America, out of work (sitting at home letting their unfutile imagination get the best of them), and on self quarantine ..not so sure.
I was down to buying canned sardines today. Stores are sold out in LA and it’s 10:40 AM

The guy with the AR-15 that they let in early the day before was me........
I had a sign on my back that said I'm looking for toilet paper and it was amazing how friendly people were when they walked up to me offering me what they had in their carts.
Saw toilet paper on the shelf at Kroger in East TN...walked right by...already have a couple of 12-packs. Get a grip, America.
In a true SHTF situation, which this not, sugar (and any soft vices) will be worth their weight in, well maybe not gold, but silver.
That is the theory anyhow.
Sardines are good for us. I sometimes have them for lunch. Grew up around a lot of fish. :)
I went shopping today in Panama. They had a line outside and limited entry into the store. I found most of what I needed yet, when I unpacked my groceries at home, there was a four-roll stack of toilet paper I had not put in my cart! I guess I’m the Accidental Hoarder (lol).
My supermarket was out of toilet paper, but had tons of Kleenex. Out of chicken, but had tons of beef. I dont get it.
You think things are going to 'return to normal' in a week? That's delusional...
How’s the stores out there... Hree in Florida Publix is restricting the amount of cash you can get back with a purchase and reducing the hours they’re open...
Thanks for the diagnosis. Now let me offer one of my own. If you read my post and came away with the idea that I said things would return to normal, your reading comprehension skills are lacking.
Don't give Cuomo any ideas, next he'll close the banks.
I bought my extra supplies a little at a time over the last 2 months. My best friend from work was at a grocery store yesterday and I have known her 25 yrs. and she has allergies this time of year, always has and gets the usual things, runny nose, congestion and sneezing.
She said yesterday she was walking down and aisle with her buggy and she felt it coming, a sneeze of gigantic proportions. It finally arrived and she sneezed into her arm like you are supposed too. She said she looked up and kept right on shopping. She said it was like a loony tunes cartoon of people clearing out, she had a clear aisle in front of her though!
I reread - you’re right I took it wrong... too broadly to say the least. Here’s something you might enjoy:

I got some TP today! Eight whole rolls! Paper towel too. There was a fair amount of meat available but things were going fast.
The way it’s going the toilet paper crisis will be solved by using dollar bills.
Well, that does make sense. It was true during World War 2, I believe.
The 24 hour walmarts in my area have changed to 8am-11pm hours.
