Her Mom and I have been trying to persuade her not to go. She will be flying from iad to fort lauderdale. Cheap tickets. Several of her friends scooped them up last minute and the air b&b is dirt cheap. Any thoughts on how to convince her to cancel would be helpful. She successful, single and is in her mid 20s and has just been told to work from home for the next 3 weeks.

She should go. I hate that so many people are curled up in a ball, whimpering like babies over the media hype of the day. To me, the point of living is not to attempt sequester myself in a bubble against every perceived threat. It is to live, and not worry about everything that people always want you to worry about.
Agree. Actually, there is a school of that that believes we should just let the virus run it’s course thereby allowing the general population to self inoculate and immunize themselves. And, concentrate our effort on protecting the high risk portion of our population.

Many companies have banned travel or told employees they will be on 14 day quarantine when they return.
Otherwise make sure she gives you authority to receive and make healthcare decisions if she is unable. Millenials have been convinced they will only catch a cold. Young people on respirators in Italy or who went toItaly are learning otherwise.

You know NOTHING about her employer and the working arrangement.

Please post a reference (not anecdotal accounts) that if a person travels, their employer may terminate their employment if the travel is not related to their job.?
I just returned from a short business trip. Both airports were empty. I saw a couple of people wearing masks. Never been through TSA so fast. Flights were 1/4 and 1/2 full and I had the whole row to myself (Southwest, everyone recepectfully spread out). I used a disinfectant wipe on the seat and area before I sat down.
I don’t have any more trips scheduled until July, but I did purchase all my flights for the rest of the year after that... airfares are really cheap right now.
You raised a smart kid. She’s taking advantage of what’s essentially a free vacation. This virus has little to no effect on young healthy’s.
One of mine is meeting some friends in Nashville soon. Maybe this weekend. I can’t remember. Unfortunately, she booked a while ago and paid full fare.

I will not do so for the privacy of my friends.
But travel restrictions do affect them.
One works in a nursing home. Another is mission essential federal.
Unrelated but....all military and DoD are now banned from domestic travel greater than 100 miles from base unless mission essential .

Hmm. I have a niece that was going to go on a short vacation to visit her folks. She decided to cancel the travel (via airplane). She also works for Homeland Security....

But she'll be contributing to the early spike and and will probably be responsible for passing it along to an elderly person who will die because, having contributed to the spike, the people she infects that get really sick won't get ventilators. Health care here will soon be rationed just as it is in Italy.
By her staving off when she gets this thing as long as possible (which she is not doing,) she's contributing to the country's effort to flatten the spike. WILL she now fact be responsible for other people's deaths who otherwise wouldn't have died because they would have gotten sicker later (or not at all?) I would say it's likely.
When we look back in a year at 'how could fewer people have died' this selfish girl will be a poster girl, because she only cares about herself.
Let her sit with that. This isn't just about her.
