Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Administrator Seema Verma joined "The Story" Thursday night...but refused to say whether hospitals across the country were properly equipped to handle the outbreak...After her fourth attempt, MacCallum seemed to put the issue aside. "That's not a direct answer to the question," she said, "but it sounds like a hope that there won't be enough sick people and we won't run out of ventilators because we have mitigated, and we certainly hope -- we certainly hope that is the case."

This might be the first journalistic effort I’ve seen from a Fox host in many years. Good for her, and Martha, IT ISN”T TRUMP’s FAULT! He has spent the last 3.5 years trying to stay out of jail based on fake charges. Thank you #FakeNews & the rotten, stinking Dems.
Your response was outstanding and to the point. I’d add MM was rude, constantly interrupting, and acted like the hack she is.
“There is no way to know 20% of COVID infectees require hospitalization until we know the number of infectees.”
—
Those are confirmed cases, And as you noted, we have no way of knowing how many people aren’t infected. That’s getting into a “proving a negative” type of area.
“How much uncertainty is there in “20% of people who become infected with COVID will require hospitalization”?”
—
I imagine you can just use “of all confirmed cases”, if you prefer, to be more semantically accurate. Doesn’t change the numbers, tho. ::shrug::
The most dangerous aspect of the Wuhan virus will be the exposure of the incompetence of our government hires who have made a career out of government work. They are useless as is our current political structure. This virus will change the course of our history, our next chapter is being written as I type and the direction is unknown.
Maybe Ms. Verma can conjure ventilators out of thin air to appease Ms. McCallum.
The projections being made use a set of assumptions. One of those is that 20% of people who become infected will require hospitalization.
My point is that assumption is pure speculation. It is not based on any facts at all. It is apples vs. oranges. We simply don't know. We lack the data and experience. Those will eventually accumulate.
The way I read those stats is about 3% of the tested population is infected. Other than that I have to speculate. I don't know if the 510 recovered/released from hospital + 67 deaths is all the 8,000 COVID positive people hospitalized. If it is, the hospitalization rate in South Korea is so far around 7%.
We are in agreement.
The fact that you wanted the question answered does not mean there was an answer nor that it was a reasonable question.
Let’s just stop for a second...In the town where you (Mr. and Mrs. America) live, is your local hospital “ready” to handle an influx of emergency patients if that influx was approximately 1/10th of your municipality’s population? 1/20th? 1/100th?
In the town where I live (in northern NC) there are, say, about 15,000 people. 1/10th of that population is 1500 people. 1/20th of that population is 750 people. 1/100th of that population is 150 people. The little local hospital in my area has approximately 40 beds, 80 if they open up an up till now unused floor.
Question: What place on earth is “ready” for a pandemic of such magnitude?
The machines are made in China to make them.
I don’t want any level of government to answer my questions, they’ve demonstrated over the years to be useless. Also, I stopped watching Fox news long ago, so I didn’t see this interview. If a question by MM wasn’t answered by a bureaucrat, no one should be surprised.
Wasnt there a tax on medical devices?
martha’s ladder climbing has turned her to rude. she showed her disgust with Eric Trump a week ago, and she is on my do not watch list.
Exactly. Great post. It was either dodge the question or cause more panic. The interviewer wins no matter what.
It's all a game.
She's Me-again Kelly, with slightly better packaging.
NIH+CDC+WHO+CMS=dysfunction
That must be like 50 Chiefs.
No, there is a task force led by Pence.
I made the mistake of turning Marthas program on yesterday. She has gone over the edge in her attempts to tarnish Trump. I quit Bret Baier a long time ago and now they are pairing Martha with Bret for updates. FoxNews is very quickly becoming irrelevant in our home. And they will not get Leftists so they will soon tank and have to revamp. AOC apparently appeared on Brets show yesterday. If that doesnt inform you about the viewers that FoxNews wants, then nothing will.
Her next move will be cnn and she will be much more comfortable.
Roger Ailes is rolling over and over in his grave and the elder Murdock has to be regretting giving his liberal sons the reins at FOX.
SAD.
