Im in the in-between age range 50-60... too young to retire, but old enough to be higher risk. So we still work, have teens who come and go, and many of us have elderly parents living with us.
AZ is really STUPID. You disease free folk in AZ need to self isolate from the zombies soon to be walking around.
I think that is the guy that flew home from the US and was symptomatic on the plane.
I’m not sure if their models are realistic.
We were all going to die during the 2009 novel H1n1. So, we may see numbers like the actual numbers below, maybe even twice or three times, but I just don’t see anywhere near 65 million deaths unless the virus jumps species. Not with as many virologists working on solutions as we do right now.
“Estimates of pandemic influenza mortality ranged from 0.03% of the worlds population during the 1968 pandemic to 13% of the worlds population during the 1918 pandemic.
It was estimated that 0.0010.007% of the worlds population died of respiratory complications associated with 2009 H1N1 virus infection during the first 12 months the virus circulated (or 0.0010.011% when cardiovascular deaths were included).
https://www.cdc.gov/flu/spotlights/pandemic-global-estimates.htm
By the World Health Organization’s official tally, the flu pandemic of 2009-10 killed 18,449 people around the world. Those are deaths of people who had laboratory-confirmed cases of the so-called swine flu.
But a fresh analysis says the real toll was 10 times higher up to 203,000 deaths. And maybe it was twice that, if you count people who died of things like heart attacks precipitated by the flu.
I read something today that suggested that a ventilator could be rigged to treat two patients at once. If that could be done it’d be an enormous help, but I’d imagine the two being treated would have to be roomies??
Another thing that they arent thinking about is that viruses mutate. It may be worse on the elderly now, but it could be worse for kids down the road. My understanding is more the virus infects, the more it learns to adapt. Hoping it just mutates to something less nasty tho.
But you are of the age group that is generally (not including most politicians!) hopefully resourceful and the have benefit of life experience, which can give you an advantage when it comes to knowing your limitations and when to steer clear of danger that is unseen.
I talked with some college students at the store this evening. They're heading to NYC to Spring Break. I said to please take some precautions regarding COVID-19. They knew what COVID-19 was but seemed unfazed.

True, I was talking about the whole laying low thing. We would love to be able to, my husbands job puts him face to face with 50+ people a day.
20-20 live on now
The CDC messaging about “at risk” and “elderly” people is giving young people _exactly_ the wrong message.
The CDC _owns_ this.
Thanks.

My wife works at CVS. We both will be infected—no doubt.
I just hope we are one of the lucky ones with minor symptoms.
Live calls, updates, physician live panel.

Italy—49 people died in one day.
Hey NN! I’ve upgraded my hurricane prep box;) I am keeping the chocolate at hand, however.
My hospital is ready and kind of resigned to the apparent inevitability of it all. It’s been amazing to me to discover how little real information the suits have. It’s been a “challenge” to get straight answers from the government agencies.
There’s a good bit of anxiety but I haven’t personally seen any panic to date. However, we haven’t any known cases in this part of Florida. Yet.
