I am working in a hospital tonight and the hysteria is overwhelming. People really need to take a breath.
That makes it more dangerous for the elderly, am I right?
I remember when this virus was first hitting U.K. It seems like they had warnings EVERYWHERE about NOT just showing up to ERs.
I havent noticed that forceful or strong statements, from CDC, for here.
I see some, but it doesnt seem as prevalent a message.
“People checking out other peoples carts...more so than just a glance.
One, to gauge how people are reacting.
Two, to see if there is anything else I should buy.”
I suspect they’re trying to gauge what the new ‘normal’ is, so that they can stay ‘normal’. And when they see others panic, they’ll know it’s also time for them to panic.

Current evidence suggests that human coronaviruses may remain on surfaces for up to 9 days under certain conditions. But more research is needed to determine how easily someone can become infected from contact with a contaminated surface

Anyone ask Pence why not ?

They work in two hospitals here—both in heavily populated areas. They live in New York state.
Here is a comment about the case work up of Patient 0

The absolute neutrophil counts were below normal....something knocked his immune system wacky and his white counts were below normal...not necessarily a good thing. Liver enzymes ast, alt were elevating and his lactic acid was rising. LDH was spiking...would love to have seen his troponin and ckmb(MI?). Platelets dropped slightly but they might have been giving him lovenox or subq heparin for dvt prophylaxis. Fibrinogen was elevating indicating a coagulopathy of sorts also referring back to the liver enzymes.
It would be interesting to note what his t cell counts/cd4 counts were.
Did patient 0 die?

Federal employees and spring break .It can wait.
I put my mail in the toaster oven. 200 degrees for 10 minutes. Mail comes out toasty warm. The plastic melts a little bit.
Seriously. Burning point of paper is 400 degrees (except the first time I did it I forgot about the plastic - but not a bid deal.) Most viruses are destroyed at 5 minutes or something at 180 degrees. I know my 200 at 10 was above the limits by a slight amount.
im sure quite a few people have it and numbers will escalate dramatically. A very small amount of those will be sick enough to hospitalize. No doubt it can be a serious or fatal illness but the hysteria right now is way over the top
Mom:
If hospital employees read my posts they would really freak.
I am predicting medical people will basically get drafted by the military under some sort of emergency order....no vacations....long hours....quarantine.....nasty stuff....

46 residents of one apartment building in Daegu, South Korea have been infected with #coronavirus. 112 residents live there. The whole building has been quarantined.
The numbers in other countries with lots of cases is 15% hospitalization rate (of confirmed cases).
That would overwhelm the hospital system very quickly since many of these cases require labor and equipment intensive care.
That is why, for example, Seattle is buying property and trailers to expand their capacity.
Expect to see that elsewhere.
Most real experts believe this is one of the top three major challenges of the corona virus.
(The other two are economic deterioration and quarantine hardships on local communities.)

My friend that works at the local Hospital system is worried they will not let her retire next month.
I do not think the military will take over the hospital. If it gets out of control I can see them setting up field hospitals. I doubt it will get to that point.
I think our hospital will get a good stress test.
