[Why are the Networks are Backing Bloomberg and All his Ads? Of course the networks continue to back him to keep the goose alive in the race that lays the golden eggs.]

I’m not sure where you’re getting the idea that the networks are backing Bloomberg. They have been peddling the narrative that Bloomberg is history, that he has suffered irreparable damage from Warren’s one-liners. In the meantime, he is quietly lining up barrages of new ads, new endorsements from local pols and expanding his network of highly-paid GOTV persuaders to do retail politics one voter at a time. Basically a rerun of his NYC mayoral campaigns.

Journalists at the networks think Sanders is too right-wing. They don’t like Bloomberg and never miss an opportunity to hammer away at him.

I guess that Steyer’s ad buys (which I’m pretty sure equal the REST of the field aside from Bloomberg) don’t count? Both are pouring in money at a time when usually the airwaves would be flooded with discounted Census 2020 ads.

I think a lot of stations & networks are happy as a clam with the current situation and am slightly surprised that they’re not pushing Steyer more to keep up the gravy train.

“Why are the Networks are Backing Bloomberg and All his Ads?”

Your Answer: Despite being as Fascist as Bernie’s supporters are, the networks know that Bernie will be clobbered, if he’s the nominee. They also know that the entire Democrat Party will be clobbered, if Bernie gets removed by the party, if Bernie gets the most votes and/or delegates.

So the only choice to prevent a disaster is to have Bernie lose, but leave his supporters thinking that it wasn’t rigged against him - hence their support of Bloomberg (because everyone else is circular firing squad). But the clock has pretty much run out on that option, with Bernie pulling away...so it’s all terrible news for them.

I see them everywhere. Here in the Florida Panhandle they may have been counter productive to start with as he was pushing gun control.

They have gotten slicker recently. Probably will make a difference with some people unless they are countered with the truth.

Michael Bloomberg has helped me in an odd way. Large numbers are typically beyond my imagination, so it’s hard for me to picture what half a billion dollars actually is. Now I can see that five-hundred million dollars equates to two or three fifteen second adds on every YopuTube video and twenty such adds every day on most cable channels for about a month.

“Why are the Networks are Backing Bloomberg and All his Ads?”

your headline pretty much answers its own question ...

btw, the bernie train is now unstoppable and there will be no knight (white, black, or otherwise) riding to the rescue ... their one great hope to stop bernie, namely mini-mike, has fully revealed himself to the whole world as an empty suit devoid of personality and pretty much every other quality possessed by most actual human beings ...

the DNC will be forced to accept bernie’s mandate whether he arrives at the convention with a majority or even just a sizeable plurality, because to steal the nomination from him at this point permanently blows up the Dem party forever, whereas with bernie as the nominee they’ll lose only by 47 states, but have a small chance afterwards to try to squash the ultra-leftist revolt in the party power structure and attempt to re-establish a broader base ... it’s best to lose a battle and live to still try to fight the war than lose the war outright in a single battle ..

Because he’s spending $1 billion on advertising. And also he is media. He’s one of them.

“I don’t know who the democrat party wants to be the nominee”

Neither do they. Their old guard is barely running on fumes, and the “coalition of the ascendant” isn’t really for prime time. It’s going to be fun watching them take it away from Bernie.

The FCC has very strict rules regarding campaign ad buys, so the network's hands are pretty much tied when it comes to running them.

They can’t refuse them per regulations. They have to accept the ads and charge at the lowest rate in the market.

They are getting rich off Bloomberg (and Steyer). Plus, their ad buys raise the rates paid by everyone else. Win-Win.

Tell me about it. Was watching TV the other night and got the “Trifecta” of disgusting political advertising. Or more like the Doomberg sandwich. First, we got the “I was just a poor boy whose daddy died” Doomberg ad, then along came the Pig Styer smugness ad, followed by another run of the previous Doomberg ad.

Here are TWO guys who are dropping megabucks into political ads and, if they are lucky, might collectively get 10-15% of the votes. The funny thing is, both are multi-BILLIONAIRES self-funding their own campaigns.

The takeaways I get from these ads? “I haven’t taken one dime of special interest money” and “When I become President, I want to spend, spend, spend to fix climate change”.

Well, of course, if you are self-funding, you aren’t taking money from special interests or anyone else. And, rather than spending hundreds of millions of dollars on advertising for your quixotic campaign, pour than money into doing something for your pet projects.
