All the data coming out of China is suspect. They are not allowing the CDC to enter the country. They are resisting an independent evaluation.
Also food shortages are being reported not just in Wusan but in other urban centers including Hong Kong. Suggests that they are having difficulty processing, packaging and getting food to market. If Apple cannot get components, imagine what is happening to the rest of the Chinese economy. Russia has denied entry to Chinese citizens. A good indicator will be the number if international flights in and out of China. Until they reach or approach year ago numbers, its a good indication that the situation remains very bad.
Still do not have confirmed data on the susceptibility of Caucasians and Africans to this virus. Many Caucasians and Africans live and work in Wusan. Are they becoming infected and dying at the same rate of the endemic Chinese? The answer will help determine if the world is dealing with a pandemic or an epidemic
IMHO its a pandemic most affecting Asiatics. Between Dec 15 to Jan 15 there was a huge number of people travelling from China, many from the epicenter, to the US. Inevitably many were infected, some became ill with a flu like illness and due to the lack of diagnostic kits were not properly diagnosed. However there has been no widespread reported transmission to the endemic American population even where Asiatics are concentrated such as Flushing and Manhattan, New York, LA , San Francisco and college complexes.
I’m more worried about canned goods running out. How much of the materials used in the cans is fabricated in China?
As of 8:53 pm EST, there were 2009 deaths and 14,530 recoveries. That’s a 12.1% death rate among all resolved cases.
Now LT, you know better than that. The supply chain disruption to the JIT economy has only barely begun. Wait for the 2d and 3d order effects - I need a widget from PRC to make the thingagummy to assemble the whatchamacallit....
Outside of China confirmed cases now over 1000...U.S. confirmed cases now 29+.
