A tale of two countries:
So, Singapore and Japan both have 84 cases. IMO, Japan is in much worse shape because they have cases now with no known route of infection. So, it’s really out of control there now. Singapore still has control through contact tracing. Also, reports coming out of Japan reveal government is too lax with infection control or taking the Coronavirus seriously.
I wonder where we stand in the US?
I had not heard that before the article you posted (re: 5400). It’s similar to the “700+ in Washington state”...there are articles but the WA State Dept of Health daily online press release does not give any specifics.

You can’t let your imagination run wild on the possible horror of what those may be used for there. They are still concealing this from the world. But not for long. Soon we may not even be talking about China if it spreads as rapidly here as it did over there.:(

I never bothered before, but now I am a convert of hand sanitization. In stores, now I wipe handles of the cart with anti-bacterial.
But still best defense against any virus is keeping your resistance as good as possible. The world is full of germs, bacteria and viruses. Our bodies fight them everyday.
Definitely staying away from uncooked food at saladbar and fruits already cut up. They always have whole oranges & apples in the buffet, and I usually pack a sharp knife to cut the apples.

Did anyone know thousands, just in California, are under “self” quarantine???? This is really inexcusable.
I called the WA DOH and asked "how many counties across the state have people under supervision". The lady said just about all counties in WA. She couldn't tell me anything about any particular county, said she wasn't even being told. Why? "Confidentiality".
She did say these are people who are not sick, no symptoms of anything, but have traveled to China (students, business, tourists,etc.) She also said it might be someone who flew into Sea-Tac, from China, and WA was not their final destination.
These people are under a 14 day "home quarantine" and "there is really nothing to worry about".
The bottom line, IMO, the citizens are being kept in the dark.
Play Hellary and use a wipe on the whole fruit. When you cut into them, whatever is on the outside goes inside.

What bothers me about this so much is that there are few things Constitutionally that our government is supposed to do for us is to protect us from threats, foreign or domestic.
Coronavirus is a threat. A potential case of the disease is as much as a threat to human lives as a terrorist and people have the right to know if that threat is in their backyard. I have loved ones with compromised lungs, COPD, asthma, and elderly parents. I want to know if this is in my county so I can decide If my 89 year old father-in-law goes to the grocery store with me or not. At this point, I, going to have to assume it’s everywhere.
Perhaps call your state or county health department and ask them if there are individuals under home quarantine. You will most likely get a “yes” or “no” with no other info. IMO, it’s the public’s right to know but we don’t hold the cards. Sigh.
What’s “other states”? That’s usually indicative of most or all.
