Bill Gates has warned that coronavirus in Africa could overwhelm health services and trigger a pandemic which could cause 10 million deaths.
The Microsoft founder and global health pioneer was speaking at the AAAS meeting in Seattle just hours before the first case was confirmed in Cairo, Egypt.
There are now fears that the disease could spread to sub-Saharan Africa where it could spark an uncontrollable outbreak, with health services unable to monitor or control the virus.
Mr Gates said: “I wanted to talk about a special topic, which is this recent coronavirus epidemic.
“This is a huge challenge, we’ve always known the potential for an naturally caused, or intentionally caused, pandemic is one if the few things that could disrupt health systems and economies and cause more than 10 million excess deaths....

Bill Gates is not an epidemiologist. Cairo, Egypt should not be called part of Africa, even if it is on the same land mass as Africa. Go back to fixing Windows. Maybe one day you’ll get it right.

I am amazed these days at the number of supposed conservatives who have adopted the leftist tactic of accusing other people of doing exactly what they are doing. President Trump was told by his panel of experts and he repeated to the public that the spread of the virus was likely to subside as the weather became more hot and humid in the area that is currently having the most trouble.

This virus kills the same way that other respiratory infections kill vulnerable people... not by causing “glass lung” but by causing pneumonia. You are making reference to a diagnostic technique not a disease. The problem with this strain of coronavirus is that it seems to be more easily spread, than other similar pathogens.
The ironic thing about this nonsense for me this morning is that I have to cut down a bunch of tall firs today. I will be climbing them with a lightweight chainsaw to cut off limbs which are back-loading the trees, and put guide ropes and cables up. Then I will be using a heavy chainsaw with a 36" bar to notch and cut down these monsters. Then we have to section them up and set up cabling so that we can drag them up a steep hill and get them on a truck and trailer to take them to the portable sawmill.
One of the people who is helping me works for FEMA frequently and just got back from the far east recently. He is feeling fine, but I have been fighting flu symptoms for the past couple of days. I have been out in insulated Carhart coveralls doing the prep work in the rain and cold for the past week and alternatively getting soaked in sweat when working hard and then getting chilled. So it is probably just me being old and tired, but I have been hacking around all night and feeling crappy. But at least I have you for entertainment value to keep my spirits up. So thanks for that!

I run XP in a Virtual Machine (a software-only virtual PC, running inside the actual PC, W10 in my case) and use it for servicing old (legacy) equipment whose support apps won’t run in W7 and later.
