Bioaerosols produced by toilet flushing may help spread bacteria like Clostridioides difficile in hospitals, according to a pilot study conducted in the rooms of patients with C. difficile infection.
C. difficile can encapsulate itself into spores that are highly compact and resistant to penetration, Geneva M. Wilson PhD, MPH, a researcher at the University of Iowa College of Public Health, told Healio. These spores allow C. difficile to persist in the environment for extended periods of time, meaning they can survive in a toilet bowl and are small enough to be projected from the toilet bowl via [a] plume that results from flushing.

Everything environmentalists do has causes problems. They are a menace to our health and way of life, and now the spineless Republicans are joining in the carbon reduction scam. Heaven help us.
Put the damn seats down. Flush and run.
They usually don’t have seats in hospitals or public restrooms, for that matter. How fast does one have to run to escape a germ plume? :-)
If the doctors and nurses and staff don’t kill ya, the toilets will!
This is a real thing. Try putting a piece of rice paper or tissue paper over your toilet and flushing it. Yup, all that stuff goes right into the air and through your HVAC.
Then there are the air blowers that blast the bugs aerosolized by toilet bowl flushes onto your hands. That’s why I no longer use air blowers.

May. Might. Could. Possibly.
Environmental “science” at its finest.
Want to to bet that not flushing them is worse?

They have seats; but usually not lids.
Well, yeah. Poo Cloud.
Put the damn seats down. Flush and run.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
That’s exactly what I do ... seat down, flush & get the heck out of the bathroom.
Some don’t have lids.
Oops, chalk it up to my OBS (Old Brain Syndrome) I meant lids.
This is bad. I wondered about that at the time our apt. complex owner forced all the hundreds of renters to change toilets. Saving the planet (and their water money).
Greta, you little deviant. How dare you!
Yuck!
Some of those toilets at the airport sound like rocket ships blasting off into the clouds. You can feel the floor shaking from all that force. Very likely there would be a Germ Cloud produced from all that ‘propulsion’.
My mother-in-law still has full-flush toilets in her house, and they flush slowly without any upward splash. I wish Trump would bring back the old kind.
“Flushing toilets may spread bacteria in hospitals”
FAKE NEWS! They don’t make toilets in Flushing, or anywhere else in NY City. Most are made in Mexico these days (and probably some in China, with our luck).
