Arizona Grandmother Sentenced to 21 Years in Fatal Shooting of Twin Boys With Autism

A Pima County Superior Court judge sentenced 56-year-old Dorothy Flood on Monday in the killings of Jorden and Jaden Webb last April. Flood was the guardian and sole caregiver for the boys after her daughter died in 2017.

According to court documents, the twins had severe autism and were nonverbal, and detectives said Flood told a relative that they boys had become too much for her as the boys had been having trouble sleeping.

Flood originally was charged with first-degree murder but she pleaded guilty last month to manslaughter as part of a deal with prosecutors.

Flood will be given credit for 297 days of time already served. With family members in the courtroom, Flood apologized before she was sentenced by Judge Howard Fell.

if the kids are beyond her capability you ask for help and maybe get them to people who can handle their problems.

Why, sure --you just snap your fingers and *poof* help appears.

Yikes, I don't think the abuse coming at you in this thread is warranted.

However, I was jarred by the comment about her being in her "twilight years". I'm a year older than she is and I don't think I'm anywhere near my twilight years yet!

We are up to the wazoo with the system. As a family we manage, barely but thankfully she is a happy kid for the most part and we love her dearly and want her with us. Respite care in our area has a huge waiting list. I just want people to understand that just combing her hair is an hour job and takes two people. Clipping fingernails nearly impossible.

I could go on and on but in the end she gives hugs and allows hugs and that makes up for a lot.

Answer: Because back when RFK was killed, most Americans saw the Kennedy Family as something close to Royalty.
“Camelot”, was the Brand name that Jackie O. chose for it.
We don’t any more, but some of those Kennedy worshipers are still around, maintaining all those legacies.
I think his wife Ethel is still alive too, at age 91.

Our small city of around 60,000 people never had this type of behavior from children. Grandparents born in the late 1880’s and up till I left the area in the 1990’s, never was this type of behavior common like nowadays. Of course, some families had mentally-handicapped children, but that’s totally different.

So, what has happened, is it chemicals in the food for the past 30 years? Chemicals in the atmosphere? From the beginning of time on this earth, I don’t think children ever acted this way in such large, LARGE numbers. In fact, I’m almost 100% sure they never did.

Now that I think of it, Jesus did cast out a demon that had afflicted a child. The child kept jumping into fire, and the father brought the child to Jesus for deliverance. Jesus completely delivered the child.

So, that is one possibility for the huge number now of children being afflicted with “autism” — an increase in the activity of demons (as in the Book of Revelations). It’s a very sad situation regardless.

Okay, I clicked on all three links and I'm sorry, but ... did you actually click on them? You need to. That third one is just a blog. And from what I can see, the "services" they provide are basically ADVICE. That's it. They call them "tool kits" for dealing with autism, and oh, here are some links to medical stories about autism, and information about the latest studies. I guess they think that if you know enough, you'll be fine. So here are some stories, here are some blogs, here is lots and lots of advice. Oh, and a support group where you can talk to other parents... if you can find someone to watch those kids for a few hours while you go across town and talk to the group. That's the "support" I'm seeing. That's not support.

Show me where she could have found someone to

1. COME OUT TO HER HOUSE AND HELP HER DEAL WITH THEM or

2. A PLACE SHE COULD TAKE THEM AND LEAVE THEM FOR A COUPLE HOURS SO SHE COULD SLEEP. That's the kind of help a person in that situation needs. Not advice from a blog.

Ok then, Mr. Logic, why don’t you explain to all of us how to, specifically, “get them into a place that have people trained to deal with difficult disease cases.” Forget the Google links (we all know how pretty the internet can make a turd look.) No no, we want to hear how easy your own real-life experience was, so we can learn. Please share.

23, and mind of a 10 year old, sleeps late in morning ,up till who knows at night. But he’s loving and gifted musically, artistically.Know some parents have it much worse, some better. Prayer time about 4 times a night when I cant sleep.
Have reasoned that they may have a purpose as far as communicating with each other without wires, over air. I’ve seen a little evidence to support that. but not sure any reason for this condition besides mercury poisoning by way of thimerasol. Had a inkling when the nurse explained some thought the preservative caused the condition before he had the 1st immunization. the next day, he awoke, a changed 18 month old. Not trying to start a discussion , argument, but I pray that GOD will help him, us , and the ones we KNOW have it worse.

Only 21 years for premeditated murder of one’s own grandchildren? Wow. How romanticist. Fair is fair. Give her what a man would have received.

Its funny you think its my job to do this. it was her job. she b1tched to her family members she couldnt handle it and they did absolutely nothing for her or the boys. but i’m supposed to have all the answers because i’m critical of her murdering her grandkids.

You know if you were in the other set of grandparents and these were your grandsons, would you be less sympathetic to her for murdering your grandsons? MAKING EXCUSES. Would you be like the rest of her family who she talked to about this and did nothing?

You have no high horse to look down on anyone from.

I've been acquainted with quite a few parents of children who were labeled with autism, and every one of those parents preached the religion of marijuana.

She should have received the same sentence as Timothy Jones - death. He was overwhelmed with five kids but murder is NEVER the answer. Those making excuses for this monster are the reason people like her think they can kill and receive a slap on the hand.

Some states do have institutions or care homes, but sometimes there’s a long waiting list. All states are not alike in what they offer. In an article I read, for instance, Washington State is rated #48, while New York is rated 5th out of 50 states for quality of care. Only EIGHT states have 5 day per week autism specialized schools. Some have ZERO respite programs. Some have NO early childhood programs, which are the most important programs. States now get Medicaid funds, and THEY decide where to spend them.

her twilight years

Just a year younger here. This isn't morning, but it's not twilight, yet.

But, in her photo, she looks quite a bit older than 56.

Those poor boys... so sad.

What i find remarkable is that not a single one of you on this thread expressed any kind of sympathy or sorrow for the two grandsons she murdered.

Just tears for her and bile for me.

What a sickening display of misplaced ethics on this thread.
