I think this is a good place to remind people that when there is an infectious disease situation your goal is to stay well. If all you have is hand sanitizer—and you are following the general precautions you will likely be fine.

The key is to stay out of the health care system—for all reasons.

One does not want a heart attack in the middle of this. You would not be able to get to an overwhelmed hospital. The same with regular old influenza.

In the end, it doesn’t matter WHAT you die from.

So wash your hands. Use soap and water. Use hand sanitizer. Avoid large crowds. Wash ALL of your food that doesn’t come wrapped in something. Clean your countertops and cooking utensils. Cut down on visitors.

Stop focusing on killing THIS disease.

Yep, Wall Street has the virus today (pre-market):

https://www.cnbc.com/pre-markets/

If the China population hunkers down and stays home or is widely quarantined then their GDP falls dramatically...the shock waves from that will roll across the Pacific to our shores, and may affect more Americans in a negative way than actual Americans that get the virus. Supply lines suffer when workers stay home.

Not since the Middle Ages has a city been quarantined. 50+ million people on lockdown - that to me says this isn’t your typical virus.

Population of the USA’s top ten cities - about 25 million.

Friday was less than 800.
Monday morning over 3000
Essentially doubling every day

Friday night was 2 in the US
Monday morning is 5

Projected 12 by Wednesday morning?
25+ by Friday?

If so bad trend

That’s what I like about this virus.

Be careful: if you like this virus, it will like you back. The virus may like you so much that it'll explore your country too.

Coronaviruses are notorious for hopping species. This is what Sars did. When you put a large variety of wildlife in very close quarters under stress a bat virus hops to an intermediate species and then to humans. Especially when you are slaughtering the animal in front of the customer - that’s why it’s called a wet market.

China knows this but they can’t give up their love for exotic food, even if it means putting the world at risk.

WSJ has a piece on the shutdown of that market.
They killed everything and took almost 600 samples to test.

Coronaviruses love to mutate and this one became human to human pretty quickly. It’s not in their food supply. It’s in their people. With an Ro of 2.6-2.8 things will escalate quickly now.

All the U.S. needs to stop all flights to China, and China along with any other nation that has it needs to quarantine the infected people. This is not that hard to handle. This is not our first pandemic.

Did not know there was no human to human. I understand all the cases there and in other countries are people how visited the Wuhan.

It has to be human to human already to have numbers of 2800 confirm cases. I would think

It is definitely human to human in China. I think that there aren’t reports outside of China yet. However with the long incubation, it would take a little while. I would guess that this week there will be a large uptick of first generation cases outside China, and by the end of the week, second generation cases, based on an incubation of 7 days.
