Well, our best defense is this time of year....We are home, off the road from the fair season....We live ten miles from town. Once a week we do go to town and the casino...so there is that risk...But staying away from children is the most important in my opinion as they end up carrying so many diseases from public school...

Of course if one has children, then that is impossible...but for people like us that ate our children instead of raising them...no issue. (sorry for the joke.)

We do nothing special Umchaka when needed. That’s about it.

What you are missing is that the denominator is unknown and is probably huge.

All outbreak reporting starts with “worst first”. This will be no different.

3% of confirmed cases is meaningless when almost none of the cases are being counted.

I do.

China being a police state and all, people will do as they’re told and stay indoors for fear of being arrested as ‘traitors’ and disappeared. Which will contain their little Chernobyl moment. It’s up to the rest of the world to mop up the singular cases quickly and effectively.

perspective: Tens of millions catch the flu each year. The USA was able to easily handle around a quarter of a million people hospitalized with flu in 2017-18, so it’s unlikely there will be any collapse of our ability to cope with another flu because we have so many well-equipped medical facilities in every state. As always, the best defense is a strong immune system, and handwashing, handwashing, handwashing. (and a pneumonia shot, good for 10 yrs, is also a good idea)

“Between 184,000 and 221,000 people have been hospitalized with the flu so far this season [2017-18].The CDC said the flu typically kills 12,000 to 56,000 people in the U.S. in a year.” ( 80,000 in 2018)

With the information released, assuming it is correct, this is an unprecedented reaction from China. Bit like the Vatican shutting down Christmas mass.

LNY is a HUGE holiday. To lock down millions is... well scary.

It is also scary that the virus is now in North America, Europe, and probably every where.

Been through a few of these. I remember SARS quite vividly. If this is a bad bug, and an escaped bioweapon, well we hit the 2020 plague prediction.

watching news conference : Confirmed case of Coronavirus in Victoria. Wuhan man in his fifties who flew into Melbourne last Sunday from Guangzhou.

says he had no symptoms on plane...says that is good news since he wasn’t contagious......but going to get in touch with airline to contact other people on flight

but i thought it can spread before any symptoms? Later admits they don’t know how contagious it is when there are no symptoms....

says they confirmed it yesterday..some asking why the day delay...
said since he arrived , here visiting friends, he has stayed locked in his room

asking about the DR that treated him...said “well” people can’t be tested

The masks are definitely useful for some things and real handwashing saves lives.

Lots of rumors apparently originating in China that there are actually between 90-100k infected. Given the very unusual steps the government is taking, that number makes sense. Quarantines/evacuations are tricky to manage even with a compliant populace, add panic and it’s unpredictable.

This feels different to me than recent viral outbreaks.

Source: http://news.cjn.cn/sywh/202001/t3542690.htm First case! Maternal highly suspected of new pneumonia, medical staff "reloaded" to perform cesarean section 2020-01-24 18:37 Source: Yangtze River Network Changjiang.com Jan. 24 news Maternity is about to deliver at 38 weeks of pregnancy and is highly suspected of being infected with a new coronavirus. Medical staff performed a cesarean section under "reload", and gave birth to a baby girl at noon on the 24th. This is also the first case of a new type of pneumonia in Hubei Province where a highly suspected mother gave birth successfully. 27-year-old Ma Li (pseudonym) and her husband live in Jiangxia. They have been undergoing regular pregnancy tests since pregnancy last year and have never noticed any abnormalities. On the morning of January 23, Ma Li went to the Jiangxia District People's Hospital for a checkup and found that the fetal heart was too fast in her abdomen. When she was hospitalized in the afternoon, she found that her temperature was high. Subsequently, the patient went to a fever-designated hospital for a high-level suspicion of a new coronavirus pneumonia through a chest CT examination. To avoid the risk, the child must be delivered as soon as possible. However, due to the tightness of the beds in major hospitals, her husband took Mary to many hospitals and was not successfully hospitalized. 6 On the morning of the 24th, at 6 am, Mary again suffered from fever and shortness of breath. When she arrived at Zhongnan Hospital, her husband's mood collapsed. "Doctor, please help me and keep my daughter-in-law and my child in the womb". Obstetrician Dr. Xu Dan was informed of the situation and immediately placed Mary in an isolation ward reserved for obstetrics. At the same time, relevant medical staff of the department initiated the first-level protective measures against infectious diseases to ensure that the cesarean section was performed as soon as possible. On the morning of the 24th, obstetrician Guo Juanjuan and other medical staff wore protective clothing and successfully performed Caesarean section for Mary. The mother and daughter were safe after delivery. This is also the first case of a new type of pneumonia in Hubei Province where a highly suspected mother gave birth successfully. At present, the maternal accounting test has been sampled and is waiting for a confirmed diagnosis. The initial examination of the newborn is normal. "This is the first time I have worn protective clothing for surgery. Generally, a caesarean operation that can be completed in half an hour, this time it took more than an hour." Surgeon Guo Juanjuan said that the medical staff wore heavy protective clothing and Wearing goggles not only restricted the field of vision, but also caused heavy movements, so the operation time was twice as long as normal. After the operation, everyone was sweating, but seeing the new life of "check-in" in this special period, it was full of joy. Fever patient in the designated hospital story
January 24, 2020 18:43 Source: Caixin.com
The kit is insufficient and the patient is highly suspected to be undiagnosed. The risk of cross-infection in mixed clinics cannot be underestimated, people expect the Wuhan “Xiaotangshan Hospital” to be completed soon

Mr. Wu: No kit

“I really hope to be able to do a virus test. Is it Wuhan pneumonia? Give a statement. But the hospital does not have a kit for Wuhan pneumonia virus test and cannot be diagnosed.” Mr. Wu told Caixin reporter.

Mr. Wu’s father is 62 years old and lives at a distance of three kilometers from the South China Seafood Market. Wu’s father is a chef who works as a chef in a public institution. He commutes to the South China Seafood Market every day by work.

On January 13th, Wu’s father had a fever. He had a three-day suspending needle in the community hospital, and the fever was gone. On the 19th, he had a fever again and was rushed to the emergency center at Wuhan Central Hospital. He had routine blood tests and routine tests such as A and B streams. No problem. On January 21, he had a fever of 38 degrees again. On January 22, Mr. Wu took his father to Wuhan Red Cross Hospital to take a chest lung CT scan. The CT showed a severe lung infection. The doctor recommended hospitalization. “The doctor told me that there was no bed, so I registered the phone and said that if there was a bed, I would be hospitalized directly. If there was no bed, I would get an injection every day. I would go home and isolate and come back tomorrow.”

Wu’s father had a serious lung infection. He performed routine investigations such as A and B. From the symptoms and CT, he was highly suspected of Wuhan pneumonia. ”However, no test was performed and the diagnosis could not be confirmed. Mr. Wu asked Wuhan Red Cross Hospital to give his father During the virus test, I was told that the hospital did not have a virus test kit and could not perform the test. “If the test is impossible, the diagnosis cannot be confirmed, and it is difficult to be hospitalized without the diagnosis. “

Similar to Mr. Wu’s father, Mr. Li, who is suspected to be infected with pneumonia in Wuhan, also has the same distress. “I also know that I am a mobile virus source, but the hospital does not accept me and I have no choice.” Mr. Li said, The biggest problem with confounding is cross infection.

A doctor at Wuhan Red Cross Hospital told Caixin reporter that only a few top three hospitals in Wuhan have a test box for Wuhan pneumonia. Wuhan Red Cross Hospital currently does not have a test box. The hospital will send suspected patients at high risk to the province. The CDC reported that the provincial CDC had taken samples from the Red Cross Hospital. As for how many cases were sampled and tested by the Provincial CDC at the Red Cross Hospital, medical staff declined to say. Caixin reporters conducted ten random investigations of fever patients in the fever clinic. Six of them had lung infections on CT, but none were selected for virus testing.

An imaging doctor at a third-tier hospital in Wuhan said that 70% of the patients admitted to his hospital for a fever diagnosis had lung infections, but none were diagnosed with Wuhan pneumonia, and the hospital did not have a kit for detecting Wuhan pneumonia virus. . “These people are all highly suspect patients.”

Ms. Wang: Eight people in the family are difficult to be hospitalized

Ms. Wang, who lives in Zhongyi Road, Jiang’an District, is even more unfortunate. Her family of eight had a lung infection and repeatedly requested hospitalization, but all failed.

Ms. Wang Wang told Caixin reporter that she was impressed with Wuhan pneumonia because one of her neighbors was sent to hospital for isolation after having a cold and fever, and died in less than a week. Subsequently, her relatives, the aunt, her uncle and her children were recruited for viral pneumonia. This made her alert, taking her temperature every day. On January 18th, the body temperature was 38.1 degrees. I went to the hospital for routine tests and found no problems. He had a fever on January 19, and has not had a fever since. The temperature measured in the hospital on the 22nd was 36.6 degrees.

After she had a fever, Ms. Wang still felt walking panting and coughing. On January 19, she underwent a CT scan at the Wuhan Central Hospital and found shadows in the lungs. The doctor said it was viral pneumonia. “I asked the doctor if it was Wuhan new type of pneumonia. The doctor said yes, but the diagnosis can only be confirmed by the kit.”

On January 20, Ms. Wang found that her husband also started to pant, and his limbs were weak. On January 21, Ms. Wang’s husband was performing a CT at Wuhan Central Hospital. There was also a virus in the lungs. Ms. Wang speculated that she had transmitted it to her husband. Because her husband also suffered from kidney disease and was very weak, on January 22, Ms. Wang accompanied her husband to the Wuhan Red Cross Hospital to request admission procedures, but could not register. The reason is that her husband’s temperature test was only 37.2 degrees, which did not reach the 37.3 degrees required for fever diagnosis. “She dialed the hotline of the Wuhan Municipal Health and Health Commission and finally settled it. Because of kidney disease, Ms. Wang’s husband requested hospitalization, but was informed that the beds were being disinfected, and they could not be opened until they were all vacated.

On the same day, the aunt and uncle who often walked in the same district with Ms. Wang also had fever. The two went to Wuhan Red Cross Hospital for treatment, and the CT film was still a lung infection. Ms. Wang’s aunt also suffered from rectal cancer, but she was still unable to be hospitalized. She just registered and let her wait for a phone call.

“If I quarantine in time, my husband, uncle, and uncle may not be infected with the virus.” Ms. Wang said she was guilty but could do nothing about it.

Mother-in-law Yu: Helplessness in the mixed clinic

What is more worrying is those patients with ordinary fever, because according to the new regulations, fever patients with a body temperature of 37.3 degrees will go to the hot spot for diagnosis and treatment. High-risk suspected Wuhan pneumonia patients are mixed with ordinary patients. The 69-year-old mother-in-law had a fever of 38.7 degrees. There was no problem with CT. The community hospital that usually treats common fevers and colds could no longer diagnose fever patients. Mother-in-law was diverted to Wuhan Red Cross Hospital. Although wearing a mask, she was exposed to high risk for a long time. Among infected people, Grandma Yu felt even more uncomfortable. “I usually have a common fever in a community hospital and I don’t have to wait in line. Now I’m overcrowded and I’ve queued for five hours. It’s not my turn. It’s too hard to see a disease, and I’m worried about cross infection.” Yuma said.

Mixed visits are also helpless for hospitals. A doctor from Wuhan Red Cross Hospital also acknowledged that there is a certain problem with the mixed medical system. “Today is the first day of the implementation of the new regulations. Everything has a process of adjustment, but the starting point for this decision is good. Make adjustments. “The medical staff said that the hospital will issue a medical mask to every fever patient in an effort to avoid virus infection. However, several medical staff in Wuhan Red Cross Hospital were diagnosed with Wuhan pneumonia.

On January 23, Wuhan decided to launch the SARS “Little Tangshan Model” to focus on treating Wuhan pneumonia and highly suspected cases to avoid spreading infection. For a large number of highly suspected patients, the only hope is that this hospital will be completed soon.

May or may not be true, but some are saying that the Bichat hospital in France where they have the three coronavirus cases has been closed.

If true, then they think the transmissibility of this virus is very alarming.

One more with some interesting information regarding symptoms. Source: http://www.kaixian.tv/gd/2020/0124/263113.html Fever cough is not the only first symptom of pneumonia due to a new coronavirus infection 2020-01-24 19:45:50 Source: Xinhua News Agency or https://flutrackers.com/forum/forum/-2019-ncov-new-coronavirus/china-2019-ncov/821830-china-2019-ncov-cases-in-several-provinces-and-cities-including-confirmed-health-care-workers-at-least-25-deaths/page39 研究 Expert research by Wuhan University People's Hospital found that after infection with new type of coronavirus pneumonia, patients do not necessarily show symptoms of fever and respiratory system first, and there are also symptoms of digestive system, nervous system, cardiovascular system, ophthalmology and so on. Wuhan University People's Hospital released on January 24th "The first symptoms of non-respiratory system are highly valued-identification and protection of patients with new type of coronavirus pneumonia (2019-nCOV)", reminding medical staff and the public to be highly vigilant about non-respiratory symptoms The first symptom of new pneumonia. The "Notice on the Issuance of a New Coronary Virus Pneumonia Diagnosis and Treatment Plan (Trial Implementation)" issued by the authoritative department recently pointed out that the clinical manifestations of new coronavirus pneumonia are mainly manifested by fever, fatigue, and dry cough. In the multidisciplinary department of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine, Gastroenterology, People's Hospital of Wuhan University, many cases of "atypical" cases have been discovered during the diagnosis and treatment of new pneumonia. 于 Professor Yu Honggang, director of Department of Gastroenterology, People's Hospital of Wuhan University, introduced an "atypical" case. A 45-year-old man went to the outpatient department of gastroenterology for 3 days due to diarrhea. The doctor repeatedly asked the medical history to confirm that he had a history of exposure to the new coronavirus pneumonia, but no obvious fever and related respiratory symptoms. Thorough CT was performed after the consultation between the doctor and the patient. The results showed multiple sheet-like ground glass-like shadows in both lungs, and a new coronavirus nucleic acid test in the throat swab was positive, and the diagnosis was finally confirmed. Professor Chen Guozhong, one of the study moderators and director of the Department of Respiratory and Critical I, Wuhan University People's Hospital, introduced that in many clinical cases, the patient did not have typical respiratory symptoms such as fever and cough at the time of consultation, and only the first symptoms of digestive system symptoms: Such as mild appetite, fatigue, poor mentality, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, etc .; first manifestations of neurological symptoms such as headache; first manifestations of cardiovascular system symptoms such as palpitation, chest tightness, etc .; first manifestations of ophthalmic symptoms such as conjunctivitis ; Only mild sore limbs or lower back muscles. Experts reminded that the above-mentioned patients with non-respiratory system as the first performance are easy to go to relevant departments for treatment, especially in gastroenterology. The lack of obvious specific clinical manifestations increases the difficulty of diagnosis, easily leads to missed diagnosis or misdiagnosis, and increases the chance of infection. Medical staff must be alert to patients with poor appetite, fatigue, muscle soreness (including mild soreness), and mental disorders, and make timely investigations. Such "atypical" patients need to strengthen self-isolation, and medical staff should also strengthen self-protection.
