Star Wars is shrinking at the box office. The Rise of Skywalker is nearing $1 billion worldwide, but its way behind the previous installments.
The Force Awakens finished its theatrical run with $2 billion worldwide. That was an enormous hit.
But the next chapter, The Last Jedi, ended up with $1.3 billion, a significant fall off.
Skywalker shows Star Wars fatigue. Its not quite at $1 billion, and its getting ready to say goodbye. Disney will keep it in movie theaters for a while but the big push is over.

One of my continuing issues was, what’s the point of storm trooper armor which can’t even stop pistol fire? Why even bother wearing it?
It just looks cool.
would love to see a fan made video of the Mandalorian attacking Disney and vaporizing Kathleen Kennedy and Mary Sue Ridley
The left corrupts everything they touch.
OK, Doomer. Go back to your global warming brainwashing class.
All the Godzilla movies are bad and predictable, but then they are suppose to be bad. In a way, because they are so bad they are entertaining. The really funny ones are where the dubbing is completely off by about a couple of seconds.
Then there are the Friday the 13th and the Freddy Kruger series. Looking at a video of a fireplace on youtube is more entertaining.
$275 + $60 million in marketing, if not more. $1b means net of ~$500 million or less after movie theatre’s cut. It’s still highly profitable but considering the first one had double the revenue, the trend isn’t good.
I think you’re mixing up Rogue One with The Force Awakens. The Force Awakens was the quasi-remake of A New Hope. Rogue One was about the Rebels’ successful victory by grabbing the Death Star plans that led directly into the events of A New Hope.
“If I knew Star Wars was going to end up like this, I would have supported the Empire.”
Heck, if you knew that George Lucas deliberately modeled the Rebels after the Vietcong and the Empire on America, you’d probably also would have supported the Empire as well. In fact, him basing the Rebels on Communists, tricking viewers into rooting for them by dressing them up as Marines, and then gloating about it, with story treatments dating back to 1973 outright confirming his claims is in fact the very reason why I started rooting for the Empire. No one tricks me into rooting for Communists and gets away with it.
