The RIAA link is a keeper. It really opens one's eyes to just which artists and albums are/were big in America.

For example, The Who is my favorite band and arguably one of the greatest bands ever...but their album sales in America at 21MM are (relatively) pitiful. Hendrix is also "bad" at 21MM.

The top selling artist (millions of album-equivalent units sold) are:

The Beatles (183)
Garth Brooks (148)
Elvis (139)
The Eagles (120)
Led Zeppelin (111.5)
Billy Joel (84.5)
Michael Jackson (84)
Elton (78.5)
