The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
If you have specific question about a plant/problem you are having, please remember to state the Growing Zone where you are located.
This thread is non-political respite. No matter what, you wont be flamed, and the only dumb question is the one that isnt asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. Planting, Harvest to Table Recipes, Preserving, Good Living - there is no telling where it will go - and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us! Send a Private Message to Diana in Wisconsin if you'd like to be added to our New & Improved Ping List.
NOTE: This is a once a week Ping List. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest to Gardeners are welcomed any time!
Now it’s getting confusing.......I got 2 more seed mags.
Did you cut the hone bulb in half?
tubebender, you probably plant rocks and they sprout.
That’s a great idea! Remind me to try it this spring
We shopped Home Depot and Lowes yesterday.
Both stores are just a few miles north of us.
We were told GE had sold off its appliance group to a Chinese company.
I don’t know if production was moved to China or just ownership. In any case, I’ll take a closer look at the date plate on the back of the fridge.
Both stores carry US and Korean appliances. But each store has a limited number of models from each manufacturer.
Happy New Year to you and the group!
JOHN STOSSEL’S ONE-STOP POPCORN:
Put about 1/4 c raw kernels into a paper bag-—lunch bag size is good.
Put the bag in the micro, set it to full power, and wait for the corn to pop.
When the popping slows, it’s done. Add melted butter and salt to taste.
BONUS Eat the popcorn right out of the bag — nothing to clean!
Been making jam.
Made some apple butter with apple pie spices and Fireball(tm).
Made some more with brown sugar, spices, vanilla and bourbon.
Made some marmalade with my Meyer lemons and some cranberries (THIS was good and different)
Going to make some blueberry jam, jelly and butter today. Cleaning out my freezer to make room for venison.
I also snarf sale ads from Kroger/Walmart, newspapers, junk mail, etc for mulching. Cover all that with hay, water it in and wait. We also use cardboard for the walkways. It works!
I’ve got 2 trays full of rooted citrus cuttings that need a home this spring. LOL.
And I’m giving thought to ordering a ‘cocktail’ grapefruit and a tahitian pumello along with a couple more mandarins (to extend the harvest season for those).
Grapefruits (red) on the tree in my living room are allllllmost ripe now.
Happy New Year!
Is it Spring yet?? My ‘winter’ garden is so sad, all brown & empty ... I want to see ‘green and growing’!!
Thank you Diana. Love this thread.
Happy New Year everyone!
Re: Fireball
I bought a bottle to take to a Christmas Eve party, as it was an ingredient needed for the ‘Fancy Dranks’ my SILs and I were going to make.
As soon as the younger crowd (Nieces and Nephews) saw it - half of it was gone before we got one drink mixed, LOL!
I had my first sip of Fireball, and I am a Forever Fan, now! Yummy! :)
You’re Welcome!
I’ve got all sorts of fun stuff planned for us to help make Winter more tolerable! Stay tuned! :)
A HAPPY & HEALTHY NEW YEAR TO Y’ALL !!!
It was a very quite transition here in Benderville. Nothing at all like the full scale wars of the Fourth of July’s past...
