Their lesser used non-scientific name is "Porkus Democraticus".

“Looks like California needs to import some good ole boys to take care of the wild pig problem.”

You can hunt wild pigs year round and the limit is two. Wild pigs have migrated all the way down to Riverside and Orange County.

But it wouldn’t meet its love match until the 1920s, when George Gordon Moore imported the first European wild boar.

Hype (clickbait)

If they are such a nuisance, I wonder why the limit is two.

“Moore lived out the rest of his life, quietly, in Los Angeles, although his World War II draft card indicates he still kept up high-profile friendships.”

Why would he have a WWII draft card?

Ever since the first European settlers came we’ve been dealing with feral swine. Never understood why we never have open season as they are not indigenous to North America.

Spanish Conquistadors would dump pigs (actual males and actual females - none of that Cultural Marxism crap back then) on new-found islands in hopes of establishing a food supply.

Now that I think about it, back in the 19th Century...

Starlings (in North America) came from an endeavor to introduce all the birds mentioned in the works of Shakespeare, to Central Park, iirc.

Gypsy moths were a failed attempt are increasing “silk” production at Tufts U. Allegedly, the bugs “escaped”, but I’m betting either a Buddhist or lazy grad student wanting to leave early for weekend partying just dumped them out a window, rather than terminating them with extreme prejudice.

A friend of mine hired a guide for boar hunting in California. My friend wanted to hunt with a handgun. I asked what the professional guide carried on a boar hunt. The answer was a 12-gauge shotgun.

Pretty much every male was required to have one.

I see lots of them for old guys in my genealogical travels. Quite handy for cross-referencing.
