In 2012, I decided to quit my six-figure job in investment banking and retire at 34. I had amassed a net worth of about $3 million that generated roughly $80,000 in investment income per year.
For seven years, I lived a charmed life in early retirement with my wife, who also retired from her finance job three years after I did. Together, we earned roughly $250,000 in passive income streams per year mostly from dividend-paying stocks, interest from savings, municipal bonds, and rental income.

He has a degree in economics, too! LOL
I see the problem. You live in Californistan.
He really stepped in it this time didn’t he?
Just what we need, more idle rich. /s
When you boil it all down, he blames his child.
Move out of San-Francisco and it would be just great for you. Unless you’d get bored to death.
OMG his health insurance is almost $25,000.00 per year THAT is ridiculous!!!
All I want to say to him is: Hey Stupid! Move!
Ya. I started reading this , I guess they dont ever eat McDonalds, drive a 10y.o. car or use coupons at dollar general or walmart. 30k for preschool? my son didn’t spend 30k a year at ODU.. Can’t live on 250k a year? these folks are perpetually stuck on stupid. Not a tear shed for them as I eat my homemade ham and cheese sandwich and I didnt buy anything at harris teeters .
He could move to middle America and live like a king, also a much better environment to raise a child!!
No, that is not the problem. He needs to know that the rest of the country, especially the midwest, still has sporadic electricity and 300 baud internet. Running water is not guaranteed to be safe. He needs to figure out how to make it work there.
Just my opinion but age 34 is too young to retire. Those are the prime working years. Also at issue in this case is lifestyle and location. Wait until your in the 50s, grown kids and a somewhat downsized lifestyle. Could have saved so much more too working another 15-20 years.
He wanted to live in expensive Smarty Pants city forever. Living anywhere else in the rest of our amazing and spectacular country for a tiny fraction of the cost is, apparently, beneath him and his wife.
They retired with a massive mortgage and then decided to have a child six years into retirement at age 40. While I am envious of their ability to quickly and easily earned six figures at a blink of an eye, the rest of their decision-making leaves something to be desired.
Moving to a red state would solve most of his problems.
It’s click bait
Chump thinks moving to Hawaii will be cheaper... lolol
Simple solution: Move and live a life of leisure elsewhere. If bored, try volunteering or giving back to the community. Seems to me this guy has a case of me, me, me.
