An Instagram influencer, 22, claims that learning about World War Two will hit millennials' mental health after Apprentice stars revealed that they didn't know the dates of a conflict that claimed 80 million lives.

Reality TV star Freddie Bentley told Good Morning Britain today that he thinks schools should trim back what they teach on the topic.

'It was a hard situation, World War Two, I don't want anyone to think I'm being disrespectful,' he said, but added: 'I remember learning it as a child thinking "Oh my God it's so intense".'

As a kid in the 60's, I remember gradually coming to the realization that a major war had been fought with Germany. There were war movies on TV and shows like Combat! I remember being surprised that our opponents had been the Germans. The country had just gone through the Cubam Missile Crisis, and all the news was about the Russians, so I assumed the baddies in those war movies were Russians.

A real eye opener came when ABC showed The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich over several nights. That was the first I'd heard of the death camps and the first time I saw film footage of them. Imagine hearing about it as a young German. "We did what?!"

Today’s snowflakes don’t want to hear or learn about something if they don’t like or agree with it.

Last June 19th, I explained Juneteenth to my young coworkers thusly: Slavery ended when the South surrendered at Appomattox in April 1865. However, the North cut the South's internet connection to Texas, so the message was not delivered to Texas until June 19, 1865.

All I received were quizzical looks. It wasn't any better when I recalled other historical dates such as June 6, 1944 (a couple said Pearl Harbor), or even July 20, 1969.

Sad but true.

Although I am somewhat prone to conspiracy thinking, I’m not sure I want to say how much of this is fully thought out. But I think that Fascism is a type of Socialism. To me, that’s not really in dispute. It’s hardly my idea — most people understand the truth of that. The only people who want to disagree are people who want to identify as Socialist and who are not comfortable identifying as Fascist. But, to me, it’s basically close to the same thing.

And I would go further and say that Globalists are not precisely Socialist but are more correctly identified as Fascist. The Media companies, Google, Facebook, Twitter, and so many other Big Business entities want to get in bed with Big Government entities and together they plan to rule over us. That’s Fascism. That’s the Globalist dream.

Trump is in the way.

On the one hand, they would like to push Trump aside because “He’s bad. He’s like Hitler.”

On the other hand, if Trump survives, they may actually make progress toward normalizing their true beliefs: “[shrug] Well, yeah, we do like Fascism. It’s not that bad, you know. Look at Trump. We’ve always said he was like Hitler, and people liked him just fine, so maybe we should all give Fascism a chance, don’t you think?”

Maybe it’s not an actual strategy, but our enemies do seem to be skilled in seizing opportune events to push their agenda even when the truth is very different from their claims.

Thousands of rich millennials have many “influencers” to thank for getting scammed out of thousands at Fyre Festival. The Netflix documentary is a hoot to watch.

A lot of this is just the passage of time. As an older Boomer, I grew up surrounded by people who experienced World War II first hand. Those people are leaving us now and soon there will be no one who remembers it—the children of those who were there are now in our ‘Golden Years’. When we are gone, WWII will be like the WWI is becoming now. Interesting for history enthusiasts, but just a couple of pages in h.s. history books.

English schools used to have memorials to their ‘boys’ who had fallen in the Great War, and 20 years later added names from WWII. But how many of those schools still stand? Do their modern replacements carry on the tradition? Do today’s students even give them a glance?

“What in the world is an “instagram influencer”?”

Generally speaking, for females, it’s a stripper that fronts for energy drink companies.

This is another aspect of it, absolutely. For a lot of Generation Z kids, Adolf Hitler is as much of a historical figure from the past as say, Napoleon Bonaparte was for Baby Boomers.

Aw hell no!

Our school district may be an outlier. They have a Veterans Day assembly every year, and I've been to most assemblies, depending on where my kids are attending school.

I'll be there again on 11/11, with my 9 YO grandson in attendance. I usually talk to his class to explain in depth the meaning of Veterans Day. I think it's more important than ever, as 80% of his class are Asian (Indian) immigrants.

They're mostly very nice people, but they are clueless as to what America is all about. OTOH, most millennials are just as clueless.

And today most kids know even less about the Vietnam War.

The good news is that’s also the case in Vietnam.

Yeah. It would push anyone over the edge to realize not only have they been systematically lied to, but the nature facts that have been covered up.

Norm is just a treasure. One of the few non-PC comedians remaining out there.

Here’s a highlight vid from his SNL years of his wonderful Clinton stuff:

Where do you sign up for that?!

Well, ya generally gotta be photogenic (leaves me right out - I gotta face made for radio and a voice meant for print), young-ish, with lots of followers so you can show some company you have lots of followers, then magic happens, then you get paid big bucks.

Some of them have been taken down by their own actions lately, as they've been shown to be fakes - like saying they're traveling, or hiking, and someone points out the clouds are all the same in the travel photos, or that the backgrounds don't look right for their supposed location, or that (in the case of the hiker) they're in their own back yard, instead of actually on a trail in the middle of nowhere.

Basically a paid spokesperson that dumb kids think are their buddies just letting them know about “cool” products they just happened on.

Yup. Exactly. I like it when the fakers are outed, makes for some good schadenfreude.

We only go back 200 years. They had a heckuva lot going on with their little island for 1000 years prior.

You should look up a TV series that's been running in the UK called "Time Team". It's a fascinating show about archaeology and history. I watched an episode this morning where they discovered a grave site going back 4000 years with much later graves dating from the Anglo-Saxon period. They consider 1000 years as recent history!

You can see the first season for free on Tubi and later seasons on Acorn (or maybe Britbox).
