One day youre feeling fine, the next, your nose is running, youre sneezing and your throat feels like youve swallowed broken glass.
Welcome to the annual cold season. Most of us will get between one and three colds each year, usually in autumn and winter, caused by one of more than 200 different cold viruses.
And there is little you can do about it a cure for the common cold remains one of the Holy Grails of medicine but better understanding of how these viruses spread could be the key.
What we do know for sure is that the first 24 hours are crucial; this is when the infection takes hold and starts to multiply, causing symptoms.
Here, with the help of three leading experts Professor John Oxford, a virologist at Queen Mary University of London, Professor Ron Eccles, director of the Common Cold Centre at Cardiff University and Professor Peter Openshaw, a professor of experimental medicine at Imperial College London we explain what is going on during the first 24 hours of your cold and what you can do to reduce the severity of your symptoms.

Those three experts must have been paid by the Vick’s company to push their product.
I have great success with Cold-eze. What might be a big 5 day cold turns into a mild 2 day cold. You must take it as soon as you feel the cold coming on. I keep one lozenge in my purse.
How do you take the oil of oregano and colloidal silver?
I try to spread it to as many people as I can. I don’t like suffering alone.......
I got the flu shot yesterday (18 hours ago). So far nothing but a sore left arm. I’ve read it takes two weeks to reach full effectiveness.

All those trackers make it one of the SLOWEST sites on the web, too. It’s often almost impossible to get to load. This article loaded instantly, though. Interestingly, when I clicked another link on their site, it complained about my Wipr ad blocker, but it let me read this Cold article.
This is where I buy my Manuka honey
Not a recommendation.
You have to do a lot of research because there are so many bogus products out there.
First started back over a decade ago.. I think I also bought collodial silver from them but I don’t see it on the site right now.
We placed her in a nice daycare school during the week so she could get some socialization with other kids her age and so we can get some time to tend to the cattle and chores on our farm.
Prior the little one showing up in our home full time, I never got sick. Ever.
But about 6 weeks ago she brought some crud home she got at school and gave it to both of us. Runny nose, coughing.
Mine turned into bronchitis and then it got infected and I had full-blown pneumonia. It kicked my ass. I couldn't breathe and spent a week in the hospital trying to kick its ass.
It's been six weeks of feeling like I was going to die. Literally. If you can't breathe, you can't do anything. Just in the last few days I am starting to get my full breath back but it has left me weakened and without much energy.
My first attempt at continuing back on my daily walking routine turned into a scary disaster. I took it slow and deliberate on the way out and back but on my return, within 50 yards from my house, I got light-headed and passed out. Face-planted in the grass median on the highway. Bloodied my nose, bruised my ribs and hurt my shoulder. I'd never passed out in my life before.
The ambulance came as did the sheriff and several passersby. My wife eventually saw the commotion and came out too. Medics couldn't find any underlying problems after taking my vital signs and doing an EKG.
My wife took me back to the house and I vowed to rest some more before trying to get back into my life.
Our granddaughter is a real joy albeit she is a two year old and can be a handful. But the cold she brought home from daycare almost kilt me. It will take weeks if not months before I am back to full strength again.
This getting old shit, is getting old. :-)
Yeah...zinc does seem to work.. Gargling with vinegar works real good for a sore throat...

My New Zealander Mum used to put Vicks in a bowl of hot water...with a towel over our heads we would breathe in the steamy vapors...it broke up our stuffiness every time...
Plus she rubbed Vicks on our chests at night...
I don’t remember ever missing a day of school for a cold...
You need to pick up some of the remedies on this thread and give them a try. Experiment until you find what works for you.
Any health food store, including Whole Foods and sprouts, and also on amazon or herb.com
See my post #31.
Manuka Honey is not new...and your New Zealander mother would have heard of it.
I started with it because of bed sores on a cancer patient..and it, indeed, worked.
You dont have to take oregano oil orally. You can use it topically. On the soles of the feet you can put undiluted drops. On the chest (so that you breathe it too), dilute it with carrier oil (sold wherever essential oils are sold). Can also cheat and put it undiluted right on the pajama fabric at the chest (I dont know if it might stain some fabrics).
Zinc, elderberry syrup and echinacea.
My mom used to put us in a burlap bag and tie-up the top, she threw us in the river, if we lived we were cured.
Jameson, little boiling water, honey, lemon with cloves stuck in the rind.
