I know this is all a joke. But, I think all of us have observed, that there are no real dress codes or standards of dress in church anymore. People wear torn jeans, short tennis shorts, flip flops, t shirts as outerwear, etc.
Yes I would rather people be in church than not be there at all. But I’m just observing, that there is no such thing as Sunday best anymore. Casual dress has overtaken just about every place in society.
My observations have been in Catholic, Lutheran, and some other non denominational Christian chruches. Any who can tell.us about any denominations which still expect certain standards of dress, please let us know. Thanks.
I grew up in a traditional church......both Baptist and Reformed Presbyterian
Have attended the mega type church with anything goes attire worn by many......couldnt adjust
Now in my dotage, returned to traditional
In my church, dress is VERY casual. I for one will NOT consign anyone to the pit because of their attire.

Presbyterian and Reformed are definitely not the same thing. I grew up around (but didn’t attend church with) Reformed/Calvinists (mainly of the Dutch variety). Very proper, two piece suits and modest dresses. no monocles and definitely no whiskey or cigars.
Until the industrial revolution, “Sunday best” merely meant the least dirty & torn work clothes that commoners had—one of their typically 2 sets of clothes.
It was considered elitist, arrogant, unkind etc. to dress up on Sunday and put the commoners to shame.
I DO, however, have issues when the "pastor" of a "church" dresses like THIS when he's LEADING people in "worship":
And I find it bizarre that none of his supporters thought there was something sketchy about their megachurch pastor-who-dressed-like-a-biker-during-church-services until he was caught up in a huge scandal.
Would have been a huge red flag for me since day one that there was something off about this "minister"
Alot of Catholic churches have gone very lax, especially with all the illegals coming in with jeans and a dirty t-shirt. Then the youth masses are the same - shorts and a T, flip flops on your feet.
The only place I’ve seen consistent proper dress is at the Latin Mass churches. Everyone is dressed decently there, and I think a big part of it is the feeling of reverence at Mass, whereas going to the other churches just feels meh.
RC - Coat and tie. Folks in show up in jeans now and then, but they’re going to hell anyway.
Being in a group to worship as a group is far more important than what one wears....
