FULL HEADLINE: Multiple wildfires break out across LA: Terrifying footage shows hundreds of firefighters battling to contain growing blazes in Southern California as one man is killed and 100,000 are forced to flee their homes
Saddleridge Brush Fire, broke out after 9pm on Thursday in Sylmar, north of Los Angeles, along the 210 Freeway near Yarnell Street and jumped the highway, according to KTLA.
Multiple freeways, including Interstate 5, Interstate 210, and Interstate 405 northbound were shut down at least partially, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Fire officials said the Saddleridge Fire consumed more than 4,700 acres by 8am on Friday with zero containment. Helicopters made repeated water drops as 1,000 firefighters on the ground attacked flames in and around homes, 25 of which have been damaged so far.
Authorities have ordered mandatory evacuations in the Granada Hills, Porter Ranch and Oakridge Estates neighborhoods affecting about 100,000 people on the northern edge of the city in the San Fernando Valley area.
According to Los Angeles Fire Department Chief Ralph Terrazas, the fire is burning at a rate of 800 acres per hour

Are the fires purposely started so California can grab Federal funds?
Nightmarish. I hope they get these fires under control quickly.
I’d prefer that nobody gets hurt, but sometimes you need to clear out all that underbrush, one way or another...
I read last night on Fakebook that the Riverside Fire was started by someone burning trash. Can’t confirm it though.
Not a good idea with the Santa Ana Winds blowing at 40+ mph.
This is why PG&E (did I get that acronym right?) cut all the power ahead of time. They didn’t want to get blamed when all the homeless camping in the hills leave dope out and let their embers fly into the wind.
Does this mean they are going to shut my electricity off again? Just got it back on yesterday.
It was supposedly a trash truck fire
This is So California
Eight hundred acres per hour??? That’s downright hard to fathom.
LA and Southern California losing power would be an immense health and social problem — and with no TV reporting to inform residents; no working traffic lights; no refrigerated food, either in homes or in stores; etc. etc.
I’m thinking maybe Daily Mail maybe tacked on an extra zero, but this things do get quite large and widespread
the fire is burning at a rate of 800 acres per hour
***********
Yep burning along at about 1.3 sq miles per hour.
"Mein Fuhrer
"
"Mein Fuhrer, PG&E has already cut off the power. The fires cannot be stopped."
Power was cut in Northern CA, this is Southern CA.
You’re absolutely right. They got scr****.
Perhaps you should move to a state that maintains firebreaks. I thought that the painfully obvious lack of proper firebreaks was totally insane when I lived there fourty years ago. Except for a conference in San Jose in 2013 I haven’t been back.
That’s not just asking for it. That’s stomping your feet and walking up and down the street with a sign demanding fires.
When your fellow citizens are that insane the only sane option is to remove yourself from the insanity.
