Turkish war planes carried out airstrikes against Kurdish targets at the Semalka border crossing between Syria and Iraq.
Shortly before the air strike, US defense officials shut down Northern Syria airspace to Turkey in a statement to Anadolu.
DOD spokesperson confirms the CAOC has pulled Turkey off the air tasking order and stopped the ISR feed, meaning Turkey is effectively cut out of the airspace along the border with Syria.
Turkish artillery bombards PKK/YPG targets in Malikiyah, reported Israeli journalist Amichai Stein.
President Trump earlier Monday morning warned Turkey, a NATO ally, that he would destroy their economy if they did anything Trump considers to be off in a pair of tweets.
TRUMP: As I have stated strongly before, and just to reiterate, if Turkey does anything that I, in my great and unmatched wisdom, consider to be off limits, I will totally destroy and obliterate the Economy of Turkey (Ive done before!). They must, with Europe and others, watch over the captured ISIS fighters and families. The U.S. has done far more than anyone could have ever expected, including the capture of 100% of the ISIS Caliphate. It is time now for others in the region, some of great wealth, to protect their own territory. THE USA IS GREAT!
Well, it’s NOT a ‘no fly zone’.
Whatever
No news about Turkey and Kurds in our MSM almost since ISIS was defeated but today for your outrage and fear....
Nor is it “shutting down Northern Syria airspace to Turkey”.
In fact, the biggest impact on Turkey will be the loss of satellite imagery, communications intercepts and other intelligence products, not losing the “air picture”.
Providing Turkey with ISR on Northern Syria would be providing support to them, which obviously isn’t going to happen.
This is dad humor, and a subtle way of saying (not to his opposition, but to normal people with common sense): "ya'll just chill out, I'm acting in America's interests".
He is my Pres, not my dad. Someimes he just has to grow up and understand it’s not the Howard Stern Show.
I think that tweet is also aimed at the EU/NATO.
Why does America constantly step in it? The USA is always in a tough spot and in these impossible grey areas.
He does talk this way, he’s the best troller.
“”They must, with Europe and others, watch over the captured ISIS fighters and families.””
WHY?
Should the ISIS fighters all be released to regroup?
Turkey's prisoner problem, not ours.
Just guessing.
Neun und Neunzig rote schneeflocken!!!
LET TRUMP BE TRUMP
“Turkey’s prisoner problem, not ours.”
The ISIS fighters are being held in Syria, not Turkey.
Turkey attacks the Kurds while Turkey is being attacked by militant Muslims. This is why we should not get involved.
What the blazes is so stinking special about these “kurds”? Why have we even involved ourselves, if this is just another ‘tribe of man’? Are they wanting a chunk of land for themselves? Are they/is this another “hatfield-mccoy” scenario?
