I think it’s her husband who doesn’t want another dog. I can kinda agree with him. It took me almost 3 years to replace my last Airedale. The loss of a pet can be a real toll on people.

I certainly understand the loss of your best pet friend, mine has been gone 5 years and it still seems like yesterday he was curled up in my lap.

True. I wasn't going to get another cat after I lost mine last year, but my apartment manager told me there was a sweet cat hanging out at the pool, and she hated to call the pound. 😻
