OK, the wife and I are planning a week long vacation in early October. We're flying into Orlando, spending a few days there and then heading eastward and then north along the Atlantic Coast. I don't think we'll go much further than Saint Augustine.
Yeah, there's the obvious places to go - like Kennedy Space Center. Saint Augustine looks very interesting too. There's a few national parks I wanna check out along the way too. I'd even settle more good recommendations that are even a bit inland from the coast.
I'm up for anything in the way of recommendations - restaurants (yes, we're gonna stop at a Waffle House), attractions, parks (local, state and national), accommodations, etc.
I'd appreciate any ideas you can give me. Thank you!
I was stationed in Mayport, FL in the early ‘70’s...We used to go to St Augustine and Flagler College Student Center...At that time, the enrollment seemed to be about 5 girls to every guy...Target rich environment...LOL
GOLF Hall of Fame/Museum etc.
Hurry before the sea level rises from global warming and inundates Florida. You’ve only got about 11 years left!
They also have an IMAX theater at the golf hall of fame. Good spot for a break from the brutal heat we are having here.
You gotta buy them. I snuck under the wire and got mine for $15.00 but the prices have gone up since I believe. Somewhere in computer land there is info about it. Oh, here it is:

So apparently I got mine for $10.00 but now it is $80.00 for 62 and over.
Yeah, I think we got ours for $10.00 some years ago - my husband qualified but I didn’t ;).
I saw someplace (probably here on FR) that the prices were going up so I went and got mine. But, don’t lose it or you gotta buy a new one. There are a couple of parks that are not included but not many.
LOL! I was stationed in Mayport in 69-70 and rented a house in Jax Beach.
Bug spray?
Here’s the launch schedule:
Well, darn...I was going to recommend taking the Daytona 500 tour...it was fun when we did it about 25 years ago
Jacksonville Beach down to St. Augustine is all the further you need to go.
Even though it’s a bit further Amelia Island is a really nice stop. We stayed at the Ritz Carlton and the beach areas were great. Very relaxing area.
St Augustine is an interesting place. Don’t leave without having lunch or dinner at the Columbia restaurant.
Didn’t we talk about this before??? I was on the USS Yosemite...
Have lived in Central Florida for over 35 years. Love it,
You have to go see the best aeronautical display ever at the Kennedy Space Center Visiitors complex. The way they have The space shuttle Atlantis displayed is amazing! Must see!
Then checkout this spot: Manatee Observation Deck north of the Kennedy Space Center. You get there by taking State Road 406 east and the turn north on state Road 3. Go over the Haulover canal bridge and take the first right after the bridge to park. Manatees are always there.
Enjoy!
LOL! Yes we did. We used to moor outboard and had to cross through YOYO to get to the pier. Carry on! One of my former crew mates got transferred to her as an ICman.
I second that. St. Augustine is a very cool place.
Check out the fort. I discovered Rush Limbaugh sitting
on the beach in St. Augustine with a transistor radio.
