Former ESPN host Jemele Hill is being slammed as 'racist' and 'pro-segregationist' for urging African-American athletes to spurn predominantly white colleges in favor of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

In her first magazine piece for The Atlantic, Hill contends that black athletes are helping the fortunes of major universities like Michigan, Alabama, and Miami, while HBCUs have struggled to compete financially, both in the athletic department and in terms of overall endowment.

HBCUs were established before the Civil Rights Act of 1964 in order to provide African-Americans a college education during an age of rampant segregation. There are more than 100 such institutions, most of which were founded in the aftermath of the Civil War. HBCUs do not discriminate against non-black students.

George Wallace and like approve of Hill's message. Hill spits in the face of the brave young people who desegregated places like Ole Miss.

Well said. So true, to remember the personal courage of real action and risk taken by black Americans to desegregate. Good point.

Hill canabalizes everything she touches. Mostly, touching a piece of paper with her pen. How courageous.

Back in 1965, liberals celebrated that an all-black basketball team (Texas Western) could upset an all-white Kentucky team in the NCAA finals. Hollywood made the fame “Glory Road” about this with, it turns out, wildly exaggerated scenes of racial hatred that the players claimed didn’t happen to them.

My reaction? It should have been an upset that an all-white basketball team could beat an all-black team. But that was the times.

The almost all-white basketball coaches had an unwritten rule about black players back then. You were allowed to play two blacks while at home, three blacks while on the road and four if you were behind by over 10 points.

I recently went to the African American Museum in DC. It’s an amazing place and I recommend it. Anyway, in the sports section of the museum Hill is prominent in videos playing on big screens. It did take away something from the museum in my opinion. It’s one thing if you love black people, it’s another if you hate white people. I believe she is the latter type of person.

She’s not necessarily wrong. It doesn’t do a black person any favours to be attending a school that he isn’t scholastically qualified to attend. He’ll make a couple hundred thousand in endorsements for his athleticism and then be bereft of becoming anything.

A person should be attending a school they are fit to attend. If it takes a year longer to be qualified for further academic achievement, that’s fine.

brave young people who desegregated places like Ole Miss...

Translation:

Blacks moved into good neighborhoods and ruined them :)

I can name a WHOLE lot of neighborhoods around here like that.

Now I’ll get the “not all..blah blah blah” retorts :)

An unintended consequence of RedTards hijacking the civil rights movement was the death of many successful black businesses and institutions.

"A man's got to know his limitations." At least this practice would reduce Affirmative Action over-admission of the unqualified but racially favored.

Notice she doesn’t pontificate for an all-black media outlet.

An historically black college president got in hot water a couple of years ago for saying that kids and the black community college suffered when they went to Ivy Leagues they weren’t qualified for. That if they attended historically black colleges, they’d be physicists and medical professionals, not social justice warriors.

Blacks aren’t supposed to speak the truth like that.

What is the reputation of historical black colleges graduates? Are they affirmative action mills like other colleges or are they rigorous?

She is a well known racist and race baiter. She is an affirmative action hire who slept her way up the ladder much like Kamala Harris.

All over the place. Some of the private colleges like Howard still attract a quality student body. The public HBCUs stink.

I find it odd that Hill wants black athletes to boycott The U and Michigan. The U was the first Deep South school to have an African-American scholarship athlete. Michigan had black football players going back to 1890.

The goal for white liberal elites is to feel good about themselves - - for how 'compassionate' they are... If many talented young black students are totally demoralized and drop out of ivy colleges OR are shunted into 'grievance studies' well, so be it - what matters is how white liberal elites feel about themselves.
