More than 500 people were injured over Labor Day weekend by stingrays in Southern California beaches.
The spike in injuries came as hundreds of beach-goers tried to make the most of the sun as summer draws to a close, rather than there being a surge in stingrays locally.
Stingrays are a common find in shallow waters of south-facing beaches, such as Bolsa Chica State Beach and Huntington State Beach, because of the suitable conditions for breeding, and safety from predators, Superintendent of California State Parks, Kevin Pearsall, said.

It’s a start.
Like the Sting Ray Beach Boys reference. Opposite side of the 45 was ‘Surfin’ USA’, probably my two favorite Beach Boys songs (although they stole the Surfin USA melody from Chuck Berry).
More range time needed.
I wonder what theyre doing with the leftover C7s? I saw a truck full of them between Bowling Green and Nashville a few weeks ago, heard they still had a few thousand left.
Last year, or maybe the year before, the shallow waters in Ventura were just full of baby blues. I went down to the pier just to watch all the tourists freak out. lol
I think all the sharks are off the East coast this season.
It is funny that you can see surfers and bathers among them totally oblivious to the presence of the sharks.
They just stopped manufacturing the C7 the end of last week.
Bowling Green is retooling and will start C8 Production the beginning of December. They plan on adding a Second Shift since they are starting Production so late in the year.
They are also able to make Right Hand Steering Models for Export for the very first time thanks to the new Mid Engine Design. I predict they will have record sales with that expansion of their Market.
It is still being debating whether the new Platform will impact Pricing for the remaining new C7’s and the resale Market. If anyone wants to get a bargain on a new or used Base C7 or the 650 HP Z06 Model, the next few months will tell the tale.
I already know people that are getting brand new 2019 C7 Z06’s for $15,000 off MSRP, primarily because of the Platform Change. For the money it’s one heck of a Car.
I owned a 2014 C7 Z51 Coupe when they first came out. Had it for a while but I had to sell it for various reasons. The C8 will be my Retirement Car. Now I’m dealing with delaying my Coupe Order and going for the Convertible (Spyder).
They are revealing it next Month and hopefully announcing pricing so I can make my final decision. No more Canvas Top. It will be a folding Hardtop design much like a Ferrari.
Nice. A friend has a C8 on order with an impressive build sheet. $85k, seems like all the bells and whistles. The electric blue color, whatever Chevy calls it.
I’m going cheaper than that. The Z51 Package is a bargain, but the upgraded 2LT and 3LT Packages are too much money on the C8 IMHO.
I started asking myself what do I really use? My C7 had everything, Z51 / 2LT / Competition Seats but I never Tracked the Car. Heck, I think I only used the NAV one or twice in a year. LOL
I may end up with the 1LT Base, just adding the Performance Exhaust. I like the look of the Car without the Rear Spoiler. If I did get the Z51 Performance Package, they slap it on and there is no Delete Option.
My Wife isn’t thrilled about be buying one so cost is a big issue. I’ve owned two Corvettes already but I was a working stiff back then. Two Incomes / No Kids, but now I’m Retired.
Now It all comes down to how much more Chevy will want for the Spyder over the Coupe. Once I get that information I finalize my Order. The Dealer already has my Deposit.
Yeah, he had 2LT and 3LT IIRC, and I think I do.
Im sure you can do a heckuva car without all that stuff, though.
Were the Stingrays driven by Cougars?
The 2LT is priced around $7,200 and the 3LT comes in around $12,000. The $60,000 Base can get over $100,000 of you go crazy with the Option List.
For that money I would just wait for the Supercharged Z06.
If I get the Base and decide I need more HP, I can just slap on an aftermarket Edelbrock E Force Supercharger and easily add another 150 HP. When it comes out it will probably run $8,000 or so, not too bad for the Performance upgrade.
I got a bit of an inheritance but am still much too cheap for a C8 or C-anything. Instead picking up a Ford Fiesta ST tomorrow, one of the last manufactured for North America, bit of a niche car with an SCCA following for autocross, under $20k.
I saw several sting rays from the pier in Oceanside (first community south of Camp Pendleton in southern California) in mid-August. Most of them were caught by people fishing off the pier.
They should have warning labels on all sting rays. Surprised this isnt already a California law. Boy, they are slipping out there.
Sounds cool. Nice looking Car and a better deal than a Civic SI. Six speed manual with a high revving Turbo.
What color and options are you getting?
