KETO diet methods are becoming increasingly more popular among those looking to lose weight. However, a nutritionist has warned that dieters should avoid the plan long term.
Low carb diets have been popular for some time among those who want to lose weight fast.
The keto diet is a particularly high fat version.
However, an expert has warned that the diet may not be safe longterm.
Although, many swear by this method to help them drop the pounds. The keto diet, or ketogenic diet, is a low-carb diet plan.
Dieters may only eat low carb foods, such as lean meat and dairy. The idea of the diet is to put the body into a state of ketosis.
This is an alternative metabolic rate in which the body burns fat instead of carbohydrates to survive.
However, the diet was not originally used for weight loss. In fact, it was used as a cure for epilepsy.
Hebe Mills, who is an Associate Nutritionist, told Express.co.uk: "The Ketogenic diet has been used since the 1920s as a medical therapy diet for epilepsy patients that do not respond to anti-epilepsy drugs (AEDs) to aid seizure control."

One of my questions is why would God start us on eating grains more so than meat but now thousands of years later Keto advocates think they know better than God who designed the human body? The article clearly says “long term” 2-3 years of Keto style eating is not long term.
My thought is people got themselves out of wack and temporarily shfting eating style is good to bring levels back to more balance but not for long term because omitting certain food groups we were designed to eat (the body was designed to use carbs as fuel) can lead to other imbalances down the road.
All this article and keto-fearmongering is about is the fake press shilling for their BIG PHARMA paymasters. If you are healthy you don't need their pills and if tens of millions get healthy they lose BILLIONS.
I am really proud of my fellow FReepers getting healthy, especially the older dudes (50+) like me. Keep it up folks!
just about everything in your rebuttle piece seems to think the body can compensate repeatedly, indefinitely without breaking down or having imbalance after a while.
so what is cancer cells start the acidic problem in the body eating more foods that maintain acidic condition will feed the problem not thwart or reverse it.
we need variety of vitamin - nutrients. Fad diets or ways of eating like KETO are just that, latest fad, and have their own problems people willingly choose to be blind to because they want the short term result and don’t care about a decade or 3 down the road.
Because “looks” are all that matters.

A lifestyle change learn how to eat properly and exercise. I don’t follow fad diets.
Reading your comment, I was taken aback at how similar in tone and ignorance it is to the left talking about guns.
Truly. I’m talking stupid-stick material. Continue keto long-term at your own peril, but cease preaching hysterical ignorance.
This silly “alkaline/acidic” food FAD is not supported by science.
Do you realize that every single day, every millisecond of the day, your body is adapting to some minor fluctuation. It is built to do that. Just like the earth is built to respond to every little fluctuation in its atmosphere and climate. Our bodies are incredibly adept inventions.
Yes, at some point, it breaks down and fails. But you are not preventing that with balanced diet or acidic/alkaline FADS that you have been sold. That is a function of any system, entropy. In fact, the science shows that those FADS are actually doing more harm to the human body.
Keto is not a fad diet. Keto is the original human diet. The addition of consumption of heavy carbs are recent history in human evolution. There are studies of people on Keto diets for their whole lives, as it is required for seizure control. Tell me how they have lived their whole lives, very successfully, on this fad diet? Recent history proves that the over-consumption of carbs is actually leading to the decline of human longevity and existence. Not the other way around.
And, what vitamins or nutrients are those following a Keto lifestyle not getting? When you say this, you are proving you don’t know what the Keto lifestyle is.
There are no essential carbohydrates. That preaching has been the stupid-slick materials being spoon fed to the masses.
Excellent comments.
Where do you get the, god started us off on grains thing?
Humans were hunter/gatherers for nearly the entirety of their existence. Agriculture is only 10,000 years old. As hunter/gatherers we are built to primarily use meat, but can eat vegetables as a supplementary diet when meat isn't available. That's our history and still our current biology.
The issue is what eating properly means. If you think that's a settled question then you aren't familiar with the subject.
That's just repeating the same old thing that has never worked and never been scientifically defensible.
It's wrong and that reality is finally coming out. I wouldn't keep clinging to that old training if I were you.
No. It works.
You need 0.75g protein, for every pound you wish to weigh. There are 4 calories in a gram of protein. So if you want to weigh 200lbs, you need 150g of protein. That is 600 calories. You need the and in fat. That is 1200 calories. That’s why you don’t need to cut those. That’s why, starting from your starting point, you only need to cut back on the carbohydrates to lose weight. Carbohydrates, especially processed ones, are what you deal with. I can maintain that.
Vegetables, fish, chicken, fruit. I’m in good shape and thin so I do know about the subject.
Well, if anyone ever needed proof that stupid can’t be fixed...
My comment applies to yours as well.
