NY Times polling guru cautions Trump-hating readers that his approval numbers may go higher
American Thinker ^ | 9/2/2019 | Thomas Lifson

While Dave Ball today on these pages cautions us that polls no longer are reliable, in his article Trump in a Landslide: Here's Why, the New York Times’ own polling guru is picking up signs that the paper’s bête noire may be surging in public support. Nate Cohn writes in Don’t Assume Trump’s Approval Rating Can’t Climb Higher. It Already Has.:

"Donald J. Trump doesn’t always seem like a candidate focused on expanding his base of support. He may have done so anyway.

The share of Americans who say they have a favorable view of him has increased significantly since the 2016 election."

This is totally in agreement with what Dave Ball reports, based on his experiences in 2016 and 2019 at the Washington County (PA) Agricultural Fair, which predicted Trump’s 2016 victory:

"It looks as if President Trump will do even better than 2016. I have never seen such enthusiasm, especially so far before an election. More than 75,000 people attended the fair, and the crowd was a sea of MAGA and KAG hats, Trump shirts, Trump pins, you name it. This was Trump country, no doubt about it."

I wonder if those rising numbers might cause long-lasting psychological trauma?

Maybe the American voting population just want a guy who speaks HIS mind, not what the wishy washy pundits want him to say.

If the president had fair media coverage, his poll numbers would be through the roof, and we would have more MAGA elected official in the House and Senate.

But of course, the so-called media is just a branch of the RAT party.

The Dems are scaring people off by being open about extreme positions that didn’t used to be part of their official line.

<< “Donald J. Trump doesn’t always seem like a candidate focused on expanding his base of support. He may have done so anyway.“ >>

The surest way to expand one’s base of support is to focus exclusively on MAGA and NOT on pandering to identity groups with the intention of expanding one’s base of support.

The “long-lasting psychological trauma” was ALREADY in place long before Donald Trump sought the Presidency.

President Trump is just the focus that brought it out into the open.

These people are being disabused of the faith they had practiced all their lives, and by being presented with its falsity, they fall into a deep funk.

Stupid and complacent about that stupidity is no way to go through life.

Nah, now is the time to get the DemonRat base motivated. Rising opposition poll numbers is how you scare them into action. The election is only 14 months away. Moron Biden isn't going to get elected if the base is sitting on the couch happy as a clam.

Also, realize that approval numbers don't necessarily tell the whole story.

It's entire possible for a voter to "disapprove" of Trump yet vote for him anyhow. Especially if the alternative is a socialist gun-grabbing, open border supporting tax-and-spender.

For example, I could see somebody saying "You know, I really detest the arrogant SOB but dammit, if the best those Dems have is Bernie Sanders and that Elizabeth Warren, I reckon I'm going to have to vote for the guy anyhow..."

There's a lot of that out there. I know in my workplace, co-workers will criticize Trump in the lunchroom for this and that but privately, they tell me they are voting for him. They just don't want the others in the lunchroom knowing that.

Article states that Trump's approval ratings (44%) are ten points higher than it was in 2016 - when Trump won!

Again, I'm not big on approval ratings. What matters is what these people do when they go into the voting booth. Doesn't look like the Democrats are gong to have anybody special.

I know I'm singing to the FR choir, but how can a pollster do impartially based sampling when he is scaring the bee-jeebers out of those he's sampling?

In 2016, right up to Election Day, I was a “Never Trump” guy. My wife was also of the “Never Trump” line of thinking. As we were driving over to the polling station, we talked about how we were going to be compelled to vote “for” Mr. Trump strictly because we could NOT take a chance that Mrs. Clinton would be moving back into OUR White House.

Today, I am happy and proud to report that neither my wife nor I can wait to vote FOR the re-election of President Donald J. Trump in 2020.

We have both been watching very closely to what President Trump has been able to accomplish over the past couple of years. We know that he is truly the right man in the right place at the right time in our country’s existence. We both know that so much more could be accomplished IF we weren’t saddled with a large number of Never Trump RINOs and the Deep State Vermin.

God Bless President Trump! God Bless America!

One of my favorites.

It's actually from a Brazilian soccer game, but that's what I'm waiting to see from all the kooks come the election. Maybe if RGB kicks off first, we'll get a preview.
