Welcome to The Bicycle Thread, thread. A monthly PING List for bicycle enthusiasts to share experiences, information and ideas.
My concern is cost. Those systems ain't cheap. And like everything else in the cycling world, there's a new model out every year.
Right now, I've got Shimano Dura-Ace 9000 and SRAM Red. The Shimano's have always worked flawlessly, the SRAM only an occasional glitch. I can't justify the cost of wireless right now. But if I upgrade, that will be on the wish list.
This is for pleasure riding on well paved road with bike lanes, lovely trees of all types from Palms to tress with Spanish moss, and evergreen pines.
I don’t care about racing, my BMW M240i with ECU speed box
is all the speed I can use.
While the latest and greatest wireless is great I like the reviews on the near perfect DTR completely new groupset.
I don’t know yet what a basic bike so equipped will cost
it seems like all the past issues with 1x12 have been worked out.
What bike company will have a value version for sale
for what I want to do is the issue, since all will be based on this fine tech.
Be bright, be flashy.
400 white lumens flashing in front, and 250 red in back. Stick on reflector squares everywhere. Solid flourescent jersey.
Remember, cars are there to kill you. They will never see you, so assume that.
Can you tell I’ve been hit?
Cantal France last summer for 2 weeks. 50 mile days, 4,800 ft elevation gains. Personal bests. La Vigerie, hotel Alta Terra. Great people.
I do not trust electronic shifting. Race teams are staying away from it.
controlled using a Bluetooth connected shifter.
= = =
How soon till the competition gets a bluetooth jammer?
Ride up alongside, and emit some chaos.
For some of us, medical problems have moved us to pedaling a recumbent trike. At 73+ we are still pushing the pedals, but now we have 3 wheels instead of two. I am thinking about adding electric asset to mine in couple of years.
I think if you looked at the equipment list for the TdF teams, you’d see that most of them are using DI2.
I seen the review of the new Shimano Dtr gear, works without any hick-ups, under loads shifting up and down hill
no problems peddling backwards, big cogs small cogs, multiple shifts, all smooth and silent. Sounds like a dream set-up.
Worth the money? we shall see what it costs in a basic trim
system.
You are very welcome SWEETSUNNYSOUTH,
Stay safe and enjoy your rides.
Try pumping gasoline into the tank.
Hello KevinB, welcome to The Bicycle Thread PING List!
A thread for every new month.
In July, I rode my 1986 classic Asian steel in my first metric century in over 30 years. Since completing that ride I added a craigs list bike, a 2006 Cannondale Synapse 4
Not the bike of my dreams but still quite an upgrade. It is my first road bike with SIS and brifters.
17.49 miles today, got a rear tire flat at the furthest part of my ride. There was a small mound of mossy dirt that caused my tire to slip to the side and made the rim slice the tube. Could be a couple of weeks till I get it repaired, we have two birthdays this month. I pushed it for two hours to get home. I been riding hard on many trails through the woods recently and even on gravel. I jumped a small fallen tree trunk. I hit rocks and fishtailed sand traps. I go to ride at the old airport turned into a park and I get a flat because of a small raised strip of dirt in a crack at the side the runway when going around a barrier! I have a backup bicycle.

I use a popular app called STRAVA to record ride statistics and routes.
I joined Clubs through the app.
Some Clubs over Challenges.
When I successfully complete Challenges I get a Trophy (icon graphic) in my Trophy Case (webpage/app) as well as maybe a discount from a store, etc.
Today I stated a challenge called The Escape Plan (https://www.strava.com/challenges/the-escape-plan).
I came back in the door because I forgot my helmet.
My wife said: That was fast.
I said: There is no escape!
Then I rode to an airport with no flights and got a flat,
pushed my bicycle for two hours.
My bike riding days are over. Still ride every so often. Would rather brush hog the back fields.
Plus I live in gas country. Water frack trucks are on all the good old roads I used to ride. Not fun being passed by one of those at 60mph on a two lane road.
Searching the web, I found out a cheaper and almost identical performance Shimano xt m8100 groupset that sells
for about half the price for the xtr m9100 top of the line
model
main difference is weight which doesn’t matter too much to
me. I weigh more than 200 lbs so a couple hundred grams going up the hill isn’t going to be a factor.
Look it up on Youtube.
why is it so hard to find a complete bike for sale that uses all the group set including Xt m8100 shifter, the real advantage
is being able to drop 2 gears at a shift or upshift 4
gears when heading downhill.
Sure. My Cessna identifies as a Schwinn Stingray. I'll race you to Seattle and give you a head start to Des Moines.
All of the Pros have a professional mechanic who checks their battery every day to make sure it's fresh.
Two red flashers in the back, thanky kindly. One between the seat stays and a second on top of my helmet. I have noted that most cars give me a wider berth since I lit up my bike like a krismus tree. But I still get the occasional idiot who feels the need to "punish pass" me.
But if they ever decide to stop me they're in for a nasty surprise (I CCW when I ride).
Mine won't be over until they pat me on the face with a spade. I plan some day to be the fastest cyclist in the world in my age group. The problem is I'm slower than Bob Kerry. So the only solution is for me to live long enough to become the oldest cyclist in the world.
After that I plan to go out with a bang, 16 of 'em in fact. To die from being shot simultaneously by 16 jealous husbands who all discover on the same day that their wives were playing the Hokey-Pokey with me...
...all 16 of 'em at the same time (Adam West ain't got nuttin' on me!).

If you have e-shifting and don’t check your battery before you start on a ride, you have no one but yourself to blame if you walk back.
