Aug 20 (Reuters) - Walmart Inc sued Tesla Inc , saying solar panels supplied by the electric car maker were responsible for fires at about seven of its stores, according to a lawsuit filed in a New York court on Tuesday.
The fires destroyed significant amounts of store merchandise and required substantial repairs, totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars in out-of-pocket losses, Walmart said in the lawsuit.

Solar panels cause heat
Tesla cars like to start fires as well. In fact most things elon musk touches goes south.
Those big flat roofs make for very tempting landing pads for Elon’s rockets as well.
Should somebody warn them??
One of our younger relatives, an engineer, warned us about this potential.
The article says Walmart started using solar panels from SolarCity in 2010.
Tesla bought SolarCity in 2016.
So these aren’t panels designed by Elon Musk’s team. But Musk apparently bought the legal liability for them.
Good point.
I bet we will find the PANELS did not contribute to fires. Probably charge controllers, inverters and batteries.
As a former firefighter and casual solar power user, I CANNOT think of a way solar panels could “the cause.”
I’m not anti corporate, but I’d love to see Tesla goes tits up.
Have they made a profit yet?
No, not sucking off of the government teat.
