Full Title: Set Your Air Conditioning to 78 Degrees During the Day, 82 Degrees at Night, Federal Agencies Recommend
Looking to beat the heat without breaking the bank? Energy Star, the federal program run by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and U.S. Department of Energy, has some tips — but you might not like them.
Energy Star recommends that, in order to reduce costs and energy usage, you should set your thermostat as high as comfortably possible through the summer.
Specifically, they say you should set your thermostat to 78 degrees while you’re home.
Spending the day out? Turn that thermostat up 7 degrees to 85.
Then, when you finally hit the hay, the federal program recommends setting your thermostat to 82 degrees.
They add that, if you’re using a ceiling fan, you can even turn up the temperature another 4 degrees without losing any comfort.
Why turn it on. Open the window.
76 when I’m home, 78 when I’m at work. Like it or leave it.
When they pay my utility bill, they can “recommend” whatever they like.
In the meantime, they can go piss up a rope.
Yup, go ahead. Then in about one year expect to receive a notice the electric company is filing for a rate increase because too many are using less electric, or gas or whatever.
Just one time I’d like to hear someone utter some wise idea from DC.
I bet most government offices, including the one issuing this crap, have thermostats set at 68.
Sometimes, when something sounds crazy, that is because it is crazy.
Yeah, after spending all day in 115, I want to be able to hang meat in the house. And good luck sleeping with the house at 82/86.
Go #### yourselves.
Not you ransomnote. :)
Ditto that ... only that now I’m retired, it’s a patriotic 76 degrees all year round. I’m a homebody and I like it that way.
Jimmy Carter told me that 40 years ago, I ignored him then, I will ignore this now.
Oh, like in Federal buildings? Oh wait....
Show me a Federal courthouse or Congressfool’s office set at 78 in the daytime. Laughable.
Jimmah Carter said to set your thermostat to 65 - didn’t mention summer so ....
Good point. People living off the taxpayers, rather than being one, should have to live like that. Us normals, not so much.
Bunch of f’n hypocrites! Guaranteed that their offices are 66-68. blow it your barracks bag.
I set mine at 66 when I go to sleep. I dont want to feel like im trying to sleep in a grass hut in Vietnam.
Federal agencies that have their set to 72.
My thermostat is protected by the 2nd Amendment.
Or like Debbie Stabmenow (R-Toonland), a competitor in the crowded field for stupidest Congressperson. She knows Gorebull Worming (c) is real cause she can feel it when she flies in airplanes!
