The college football fight song has existed for more than a century, so it's no wonder that a school's signature sound always rouses the crowd during a game. In honor of the sport's 150th anniversary, here are the best fight songs in the sport's history.

I remember this one from somewhere in my youth (may have been in Mad Magazine or Dr. Demento)

Cheer cheer cheer The Black and The Blue
You’re gonna win cause we are for you
Push their faces in the mud
Knock out their teeth
And draw all their blood

Stomp on their stomachs
Break all their bones
We want to hear their screams and their moans
If you follow our advice
You’ll win a clean victory!

I always thought that if a college band played the Motel 6 theme song, it would sound great.

I'd go with USC and Oklahoma as having the most annoying fight songs, particularly USC. They play that stupid fanfare every time they gain three yards.

Michigan as #1, uh no.

Texas and Texas A&M have good fight songs. Rocky Top is good. Notre Dame, Navy and Wisconsin all have distinctive fight songs, so good there.

C'mon! I'm a Ramblin' Wreck from Georgia Tech is hands down the best! A barrel of rum? And To Hell With Georgia?! It's no contest. Although Hail to the Victors really sticks in your head.

I would think, that Jail House Rock, would cover most of these major universities as a theme song.

They play Rocky Top after every first down they get and every score. Thankfully, they haven’t been playing it quite as much the past few years.

My comments on the list: U Wash fight song sucks. Rocky Top is an adopted country song. If you are going to include Rocky Top then one can include USCs "Tusk" and Stanford's "All Right Now". The pieces mentioned for USC and FSU are not even the most famous pieces of music for those schools. If you are going to include "Boomer Sooner" then you have to include other more short pieces. This is my list as a 30+ year college football fan:

11: UCLA/CAL: UCLA created a modified version of the Cal fight song

10: Georgia. UGa song using the music from "The Battle Hymn of the Republic:" is so funny. I guess Sherman's troops singing that music created the ultimate musical earworm.

9: Notre Dame. Should be higher but I hate the Domers.

8: TAMU War Hymn

7: Boomer Sooner

6: The Service Academies

5: THE Ohio State University: "Across the Field"

4: USC: Tribute to Troy. (The piece of music the USC band plays when USC is on defense)

3: Tomahawk Chop

2: On Wisconsin: That was the cry Arthur McArthur, father of Douglas, yelled out as he led his Wisconsin regiment up Missionary Ridge.

1: "Hail to the Victors". When your college fight song gets the approval of the March King Sousa himself you know you did it right.

“They got the Victors and Anchors Aweigh right. It helps when you have John Phillip Sousa write your fight song for you.”

“Anchors Aweigh”is the only armed forces fight song that specifically mentions drinking.GO NAVY!

I loved Alabama’s even before I knew what it was.

Back in the 50s and 60s at our high school games the loud speaker would play various fight songs before the game began.

My favorite was “Yeah Alabama” before I even knew it was that.

I do agree that the million dollar band has managed to mess it up.
